I am going to see if I can find someone in the organization with a Red Hat account to open the bug. In the meantime, I came up with a workaround. I wanted to see if I could role the updates back to CentOS 6.7 since the system was 6.7

Problems installing packages from the CD
So I did a minimal install of centos 7 vm guest just to find out it did not
install perl. Since as of right now I have no properly functioning network
on that machine (different issue; we can talk about that in another post),
I went for the next best thing: install CD.
I grabbed the CentOS-7-x86_64-Everything-1611.iso CD (around 8GB), attached
it to the guest, and mounted it on /mnt. Then I

Yum choosing remote repositories first
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Okey, here is something interesting.
So I finished downloading all CentOS 4.4 images (CDs and DVD) before
anything else. Now I have the dvd iso mounted (-o loop), and changed
CentOS-Base.repo so the [base] repo will point to it.
# yum update
Boom! Yum tries to use the [update] repository (not local) to upgrade
to 4.4.
What I ended up doing is:

Update to base release
Hello All,
We have some machines running CentOS 4 Update 4 (4.4). We want to update
these boxes to the stock CentOS 4 Update 8 (4.8).
We have the 4.8 iso images. Is it possible to use up2date and have it use
the 4.8 mounted iso images on a remote (install) server as the repository?
The ISO's are accessible through http. These servers are remote with no
CD/DVD option to upgrade that way.
I have

Building a C5 chroot on a C6 machine
I'm trying to do something slightly silly; rather than having a C5 machine
and a C6 machine around for compiling and testing, I want to create a C5
chroot area. Something similar to "mock" but using lvm snapshots and some
local config specific stuff.
(Potentially even using Linux Containers to enter the chroot environment).
So I thought I'd build out the chroot...

Xorg problem
I updated to Centos 6.8.
Every thing is working, except Xorg does not startup.
When I look at top, it seems that Xorg keeps trying but not
succeeding to start.
Any idea what the problem might be?
Thanks

playing DVDs on C7
Hi all!
I'm trying to finish setting up my newly upgraded C7 system.
It's on the same hardware I ran C6 on for several years. on C6 I had no
trouble playing DVDs (after installing tons of packages and libdvdcss).
Well, on C7, I've got totem (videos) and all its plugins I can find
via yum, VLC (from nux) all the gstreamer and gstreamer1 packages I
can find, everything with

Updating the DVD ISO howto?
I seem to remember this being addressed before, but I can't find the
howto anywhere.
I've got a friend heading to another country with VERY limited
bandwidth. He'd like me to update the 4.4 DVD to include all of the
updated RPMS from updated.
Where can I find the scripts to update the meta data on the RPMS and
create a new bootable DVD?
Thanks!

DNF update
I was searching tonight how to update OLD systems.
I have C5 and C6 systems that need updating and they are remote systems.
I followed the paths and ended up at DNF.
Is this a valid option for updating C5 and C6 to take them to C7?
Thanks,

documentation on installing dvd2 in 6.3 x64 release?
Hello -
I've searched the CentOS 6.3 wiki docs (Help, Tips and Tricks, HowTo, FAQ, and website search) on how to install the dvd2.iso image on an x86-64 machine and can't find any info and the documentation is not yet posted for CentOS 6.x. When the dvd1.iso for 6.3 x86_64 installs, it does not prompt to install dvd2.iso.
Please provide a URL which describes how to install the
