GNOME lockscreen freeze on notification
Hi, I just installed CentOS 7 with GNOME on my new Dell Latitude E6230 laptop. So far, everything runs nicely. I just have one problem with the GNOME lockscreen. I launched the OwnCloud client and started to synchronize about 20 GB of data from my OwnCloud server. During the sync, I left the laptop unattended. After about 15 minutes, the desktop was replaced by the lockscreen, as it should. As

CentOS 7 + GNOME : all icon themes broken after update from CR
The recommended method for undo an update is https://access.redhat.com/solutions/64069, but it's not supported if glibc, kernel, or selinux are changed. I'd give it a try if the system is not critical. Make backups first. Some other people's experience on downgrading a point release: https://access.redhat.com/discussions/2933711 If you couldn't read that article, just search

Duplicate *.desktop entries for GNOME in /usr/share/applications
Hi, Today I noticed something strange. There seem to be a series of duplicate desktop menu entries in /usr/share/applications. Example: gedit.desktop and org.gnome.gedit.desktop Other example: nautilus.desktop and org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop This is annoying, since I usually edit some custom menu entries for my users. Now, if I edit both files for a single application, I end up with duplicate

As a follow-up question : is it possible to roll back the update made from the CR repository? Sort of a downgrade to the official CentOS 7.5? Cheers, Niki -- Microlinux

Connect CentOS 7 / GNOME to wireless WPA2/AES ?
Hi, I just shipped a CentOS 7 laptop with a slightly customized GNOME desktop to one of my clients who works for a belgian public broadcasting service. He wants to move away from the world of proprietary software, so he sent me a list of specifications, which we have almost completed. There's a handful of items we still have to work out. One of them is the specific wireless connection

CentOS 7 + GNOME : all icon themes broken after update from CR
Hi, I just upgraded one of my CentOS 7 + GNOME desktops from the CR repo. After the upgrade, it seems like all of the icon themes are broken. Missing icons everywhere. Any idea what's going on here ? GNOME, numeric keypad & commas
Hi, Our local school has a 100 % CentOS network on servers and desktops. Until recently, we were using a highly customized Xfce desktop environment. Last week I decided to migrate all desktops from Xfce to GNOME, which went quite well. Now I have to sand down some rough edges. The secretary complained that she can't use the numeric keypad as before. She's using LibreOffice Calc a lot,

So, for example, before RHEL 8.1 was released, 8-stream had kernel packages with a version-release close to what was eventually released in RHEL 8.1, and eventually into CentOS 8.1.xxxx. Custom user profile for GNOME 3?
Hi, I wonder where - and eventually how - GNOME 3 stores its user preferences. I'd like to create a custom user profile, with slightly different settings than the default ones: * don't show home folder on ~/Desktop * don't show Trash * use custom default wallpaper * stretch wallpaper instead of zooming * use different default icon theme * etc. Until now I've done this

Transparent GNOME Terminal in CentOS 7?
Hi, I like working with transparent terminals. Unfortunately, this feature seems to have been removed from GNOME Terminal in CentOS 7. Anybody knows if there's a workaround to get it back? Remote Git vs. GNOME on CentOS 6.6: cannot open display
Hi, I just installed a fresh CentOS 6.6 desktop. It's a client's machine, it is physically installed on a testbench in my office. Usually, when I perform installations, I start with the base system on the testbench, and once networking is configured, I SSH into it and then do all the fine-tuning remotely. My configuration files, scripts and HOWTOs are all stored in a Github

Postfix, system notifications and local servers
Hi, I have CentOS 7 running on half a dozen public servers. For some stuff like automatic updates using yum-cron, I have Postfix installed with a relatively basic configuration. This allows me to send important notifications to my mail address info at microlinux.fr. When there's a batch of updates, I get one mail per machine, so I can check quickly if everything went OK without having to

Thunderbird vs. Evolution vs. OwnCloud
Hi, I'm currently using Thunderbird synced to OwnCloud on my main workstation running Slackware64 14.1. I just installed CentOS 7 on my Asus S300 laptop. It's running nicely, and I'm spending some time getting acquainted with it. I wonder if I should stick with Thunderbird or go with the default Evolution application, since this seems to be better integrated into the desktop, namely
