Setting up HP OfficeJet 5610 fax on CentOS 4.4 shared
Hi there, As the subject says, I'm trying to set up an HP OfficeJet 5610 on CentOS 4.4 for shared use across my machines. I've managed to get printing (through HPLIP/ CUPS/ SAMBA) and scanning (through SANE) shared; but I'm unable to get fax shared working. Is it possible to do that? The instructions on the HPLIP page talk about installing the 5610 as a fax device and then faxing

Digium E1/T1 card with mgetty+sendfax
Hi, For the project I've used the Eicon DIVA card. It has 8 BRI ports, and for about 25% of the time there are 7 or 8 in use. So we want to replace it with an E1 card. Only issue is, replace it with what? The idea we have been playing with was to get a Digium E1 card (we already have bought lot of Quad E1 cards :-) and then just put it back to back against Asterisk server. And instead of

Samba Faxing..........
Dear All, Has anyone come up with a decent faxfilter script that actually works when use Samba + Mgetty/Sendfax. I can print to Samba printers from Windows with no problems, and I can use the faxspool command to send postscript files as faxes from a Linux box. The only part I can't get to work is the vital link between the Samba printer and

fax serving
Newbie question: I have successfully set up a samba server for file & print sharing. What I'm not sure about is how to set up a fax server. Has anyone tried to do this? What all do you have to do, or maybe you could just point me in the right direction. =========================================== Charles Lewis, Director of Administrative Computing Southwestern Adventist University,

NPTL problem on Centos 4.4
Not sure where to ask this, I've been googling and not finding much that is helpful. At work I've got a multi-threaded program targeted at Linux. It compiles on RHEL 2.1 and 3, and is targeted at 2.1, 3, and 4. UP until today, the binary built on 3 has worked fine on 4. But on RHEL4 update 4 it dies a horrible death in pthread_create. I have reproduced the problem on Centos 4.4, where I

I should start off by saying that I know a lot more about linux than I do z/series hardware.... I've tried centos 3.3 and 4.4 for s390 and s390x, if it make any difference.... Trying to install 4.4 on an lpar on a z9-BC and having trouble figuring out how to get the OSA adapter working. I've been told that when I ftp-boot from the iso image, I should choose "eth" for

Centos 4.4 in a cf card + ramdisk
I want to install centos 4.4 in a CF card and use a ram disk for operations. It means no hard disk attached to the computer. The machine will only run an antispam antivirus gateway. What documents can I read to make /var and /tmp sit on a ram disk and boot the operating system in read write and switch to read only after booting? thanks, --

Is it better to rebuild or update my notebook for 4.4
Wow! With all the conversations here, and some things on my system, I am seriously thinking of taking another drive, install 4.4 on it, and then move my /home partition (I planned for such eventualities by putting /home on its own partition). Couple of questions: I did my current build with a ks.cfg on a floppy. Can I use the same information for 4.4 as I did for 4.3? That is none of

wireless card for CentOS
Hi, I'll need to buy a new wireless card. I need a recommendation for PCMCIA wireless card that simply works with CentOS out of the box. By "works out of the box", I mean that it doesn't need ndis wrapper (or whatever it is called), kernel hacks, or whatever. Thanks

5-beta or 4.4 for a new user?
Hello, I am a Slackware user who's interested in learning CentOS. At this point it is for intellectual curiosity only and not for any real work so the machine need not be 100% stable at this point. It's most probably going to be an installation into VMWare. Given that, I thought I'd wait for 5-beta (mid-Jan'07) and start with that. Will it be possible to upgrade from 5-beta

How should I create a repo on Centos 2.1?
I tracked down a createrepo rpm "for RHL 7.x, AS 2.1" etc (hosted by Dag), but it's uninstallable. Eventually I managed to create an rpm from the source (actually, that's fairly easy when onw knows to say "python2"), but python-urlgrabber has completely defeated me. According to Dag, the problem is that "upstream" doesn't see the need to support

yum vs up2date
Which is better? Why? I know yum is the official update mechanism here and in Fedora Core, but that doesn't make yum better than up2date any more than Windows NT was better than OS/2. Let's try to keep the discussion objective:-) I'm asking, hoping for some insights into why RH might (apparently) be moving to yum in preference to up2date (yum is now used within Anaconda). Other
