Backup Suggestion on C7
I'm not a bacula expert, but have had 30+ years in the industry doing backups. I'm a little concerned about what you are planning. As I understand it you are going to be keeping just one copy of each machine on a disk attached to the server. This will help if you loose the running disks (though it is hardly backup in depth), but what happens if you loose the server due to fire, flood,

[SOLVED] Re: Backup Suggestion on C7
I'm sure some people will tell me I'm doing it wrong but I always just use rsync for backups, automated in cron. I may be doing it wrong but it always works. [SOLVED] Re: Backup Suggestion on C7
Hi list, I've solved my problem. I've understood some concepts. I've defined bacula-sd multiple devices with different Media Type and configured different storage directives in director. Thanks. > Hi list, > I'm building a backup server for 3 hosts (1 workstation, 2 server). I > will use bacula to perform backups. The backup is performed on disks (2 > x 3TB on

"gluster peer status" messed up
I have three machines, all Ubuntu 12.04 running gluster 3.3.1. storage1 192.168.6.70 on 10G, 192.168.5.70 on 1G storage2 192.168.6.71 on 10G, 192.168.5.71 on 1G storage3 192.168.6.72 on 10G, 192.168.5.72 on 1G Each machine has two NICs, but on each host, /etc/hosts lists the 10G interface on all machines. storage1 and storage3 were taken away for hardware changes, which included

3-layer structure and the bonnie rewrite problem
Hello list First of all: Good work and thanks for GlusterFS! I'm totally new to GlusterFS, but i like it a lot and think about migrating my NFS setup completely to GlusterFS. But i ran into some problems with my chosen structure. Hopefully someone can help out. The first questions: i ran into some performance issues with a certain structure/setup and like to know (before i continue testing)

'Transport endpoint not connected'
This should be a pretty easy issue to reproduce, at least it seems to happen to me very often. (gluster-3.2.5) After storage backend(s) have been rebooted, the client mounts are often broken until you unmount and remount. Example from this morning: I had rebooted storage servers to upgrade them to ubuntu 12.04. Now at the client side: $ ls /gluster/scratch ls: cannot access /gluster/scratch:

Adding a mirror to an existing single disk zpool
Hello All, I''m transitioning data off my old UFS partitions onto ZFS. I don''t have a lot of duplicate space so I created a zpool, rsync''ed the data from UFS to the ZFS mount and then repartitioned the UFS drive to have partitions that match the cylinder count of the ZFS. The idea here is that once the data is over I wipe out UFS and then attach that partition to the

obfuscating sensitive data
In our app, users give us sensitive information (credentials for logging into a third party site). At some point, we need those credentials in cleartext in order to access the third party site, but while they''re in our database, we want to make best effort for protecting them. What techniques have people used for this? I find myself asking "WWMD (What Would Mint.com Do?) -- any

Help with ssh -A, screen, ssh -a, detach, logout
Hi, I've noticed some ssh behaviour that I wish didn't happen. I was wondering if someone can explain how I can stop it from happening, or explain why it's unavoidable. If I ssh-with-agent-forwarding from one host to a second host, and on the second host use something like nohup/screen/tmux/daemon, and from within that new process session, start a long-running command via

mdraid on top of mdraid
Is it possible or will there be any problems with using mdraid on top of mdraid? specifically say mdraid 1/5 on top of mdraid multipath. e.g. 4 storage machines exporting iSCSI targets via two different physical network switches then use multipath to create md block devices then use mdraid on these md block devices The purpose being the storage array surviving a physical network switch

DHT translator problem
Hello, I am trying to configure a volume using DHT, however after I mount it, the mount point looks rather strange and when I try to do 'ls' on it I get: ls: /mnt/gtest: Stale NFS file handle I can create files and dirs in the mount point, I can list them but I cant list the mount point itself. Example: the folume is mounted on /mnt/gtest [root at storage2]# ls -l /mnt/ ?---------

why does rsync translate user@host into '$RSYNC_RSH -l user host'?
Why does rsync believe it knows more about the use of the token to the left of the colon than the program which will be used as the remote connection? I have a script called sshto with accepts targets like this: host1!host2!host3 and constructs the requisite ssh ProxyCommand options to do a multihop ssh to host3 to run a command. Very useful if connecting to firewalled nonroutable hosts or to

Hi I''m trying to configure bacula''s config file. The issue is everytime the script runs a new key gets generated for bacula. How can I have the config file update only run once with puppet, yet replace the default bacula-fd.conf file. script listed below: class bacula-client { # define which server to use case $datacenter { 1: { $backupserver
