Problem with keyboard layout
Hi! I'm trying to set up a fully virtualized server using Xen; both host and guest operating system is CentOS-5.2. Otherwise it seems to work fairly well, but I can't get my finnish keyboard work correctly for the guest (when using virt-viewer. No problems on the host). In the beginning, using default settings, the behaviour was as if the keyboard layout had been set to "U.S.

Changing the keyboard layout
Hello, I have a strange problem with a game: I want to assign the key on the left side to the number "one" (degree key in Germany) to an action in a program, but the application does not recognize the button if I start the application normally. If I set in gnome my default keyboard-layout to a US-layout it works fine. But I don't want my default keyboard layout to be a US-layout, so

Keyboard layout switching bug: workaround?
Hi, I'm an Austrian writer living in Montpezat (South France). I've been 100% GNU/Linux for the past five years, and I recently switched from Slackware to CentOS, for the sake of comfort. Overall impression: I like it! I have a few problems to solve yet in my migration effort, mostly minor annoyances. First things first. I need three different keyboard layouts: de, fr_CH and fr. I'm

suspend / hibernate via lid / button doesn't work
Damjan, Glad to hear that worked for you. I don't know if the gnome people can make this very much easier. Different version of different linux distros might invoke hibernate differently. How would they know which one to map to the lid button? Also, some people might want to invoke sleep rather than hibernate. If there were system commands which were persistent over all distros and

new laptop: DVD or Blu-ray
One of the build options for a laptop I'm looking at buying is DVD vs Blu-Ray. I've never used Blue-ray before, so is there some compelling reason, as a Linux guy, to want to get Blu-ray?

CentOS 7 + KDE - default keyboard layout?
Hi, I'm currently fiddling with CentOS 7 and KDE 4.14, and I must say, I'm pleasantly surprised. This is one of the cleanest implementations of KDE I've ever seen, and with some tweaking (a lot, in fact) this can be turned into a highly functional desktop with all the bling and bells and whistles. But right now, I have some minor problems to solve. First things first. My system is

This error: Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: debug. Please verify its path and try again occurs every time I run yum (and is where execution stops). Why? and/or What can be done to fix yum so I can use it again? tnx. -- War is a failure of the imagination. --William Blake

Backup live system
Though I've worked with enterprise systems, I'm not familiar with FOOS backup software. Which of those recommended would allow me to backup a system while users are active on it? If it matters the system uses LVM. I'd also like to be able to avoid needing the network if possible. That is, I'd plug in a disk into a USB port and backup the system onto that... again, while
