No errors or warnings, apart from
rlimit_max: increasing rlimit_max (1024) to minimum Windows limit (16384)

I did not observe this, although the machine was running at a load of 1+ with no apparent culprit.

How to regenerate passdb.tdb
Hi,
I was having problem with the tdbsam backend in which a particular user got
listed twice with pdbedit.
(http://www.mail-archive.com/samba at lists.samba.org/msg109110.html)
Without much hope in fixing it, I am planning to re-generating passdb.tdb on
my PDC by:
(1)exporting tdbsam to smbpasswd backend
(2)delete passdb.tdb
(3)re-import smbpasswd to tdbsam backend
With the command `

FYI : oplock problems
FYI, I'm setting up a file server for 1000 users based on mdk 8.0,
self-compiled 2.4.19 + acl patches, self compiled samba 2.2.6, 100 Mbps NIC
this server is right now in a pre-prod status and is currently used only by
very few users
while loading several +100 MB files on a share from a NT 4 wks 100 Mbps, we
got several "session cancelled" messages, and un-killable D-state smbd

Mounted shares hangs when accessing
I am on Fedora Core 2. I have tried using smbmount
and auto.fs to mount both samba and windows shares.
They all mount successfully.
However, in a terminal window or in Nautilus when I am
trying to access the shares (even an ls command in
terminal window) will completly hang the share point.
This process then becomes an un-killable process.
Other systems can connect to the share point and use

Samba and NT (yes really) server
Okay you can stop laughing, yes I still have an NT server running for some
special software.
I've got a new linux machine running Samba version 3.6.23 and am having
problems getting it to connect to winXP machines to talk to their shared
printers
It can join the domain and smbtree and smbclient sort of work.
192.168.4.28 is a windows XP machine

Hanging, uninterruptible smbd-process in "D"-state
Hello,
I run a samba server for windows users who access their user data via
samba. The samba server is NOT the domaincontroller. This task is
performed by a native windows machine. The samba server is running on a
pve virtual machine. All data that samba delivers to the windows users
are stored on two NFS servers (also VMs) and accessed via an automounted
NFS mount for each user on the

rsync hangs, leaves defunct process
Hello,
I'm experiencing a weird problem which I haven't been able to track down
for 8+ weeks now.
Situation is as follows: There is a nigthly backup from our main server
to a backup server. The server base directory is mounted there read-only
via NFS. Then we do something like this:
1. Duplicate the contents of yesterday's backup into
/sicherungen/2007/02/02/01.41/
2. Rsync

Dovecot and stale nfs-locks hanging processes
Greetings dovecot mailing list.
I have implemented a relatively big dovecot setup (250k users) and
overall I am very pleased with dovecot functionality and performance.
Setup description:
* dovecot 1.0.x
* FreeBSD 6.3
* Postfix (using dovecot deliver as LDA).
* OpenLdap backend
* Storage is NFS (Clariion EMC NFSd for Maildir, and FreeBSD NFSd for
Indexes).
* Locking is fcntl using

Most stable Xen, and LTS distros
Hi all,
As here some people with long year daily practice I have some questions:
Which is the most stable xen hypervisor, with good I/O performance?
- Setup will be dom0 will have drbd on lvm and used as disk space for
host, failover to other drbd node.
- Heartbeat will be used, drbd primary activation will be done by Xen
script. (It was the only real stable solution, where drbd could gone

Various applications freeze regularly since CentOS 7.5 update
Hi,
since we have upgraded to CentOS 7.5 (from CentOS 7.4), we experience
frequent, but not reproducible, freezes of various applications:
Thunderbird, Firefox, LibreOffice. Usually the application process
keeps running with PPID 1 w/o being killable (not even with SIGKILL).
Freezes of Thunderbird are usually followed by Firefox crashing a few
minutes later. The only possible solution we

tdbbackup with bouncing/shutting down samba possible?
Hi,
We are a small company, which has just started using samba.
Recently we have faced a few issues regarding the TDBs getting corrupted.
I have read that the only way of getting around this issue, is to regularly
take tdbbackups.
But, this process needs a downtime of my samba server, which we would not
want.
Instead, is there a way where I can take the tdbbackup with out shutting
down samba
