OpenLDAP Problem
Everyone,
We currently are running a Centos3 directory server, I am currently
testing centos4 as an upgrade of this machine in the future. There is a
special user we have called cn=samba,ou=special in our directory, this
user is for samba to use when binding to the directory. On the
production replica server, i have taken an offline slapcat ldif of the
entire tree. I then copied this file to

Migrating from Centos 5 NT4 style to Centos 7 issues
I vaguely remember some issue where openldap between versions went from
using a single file for config to a multiple file config. I think you
could use the slapcat command to convert.

FW: Bad configuration file
??? This is solved.
?
Problem was, incorrect settings in slapd.conf and dynamic / config file setup was mixed.
?
str2entry: invalid value for attributeType objectClass #1 (syntax?1.3.6.1.4.1.1466.115.121.1.38)
slapcat: bad configuration file!
The core.schema and the core.ldif are bit different.
debian installs slapd with dynamic ( in database ) config, when switch back to config file setup.

Samba + OpenLdap replication problem
Hi all,
not sure if I can ask here, because this sounds to me more an OpenLdap
than a Samba problem, but it involves samba too.
I've got a domain controller based on Fedora 2, samba 3.0.7-2.FC2 and
openldap-2.1.29-1, which serves 60 users in a domain.
Now I'm trying to set up a backup domain controller, based on the same
software, on another machine.
I stop Openldap on the master, dump

OpenLDAP migration from Centos 5 to 6
I'm moving my home network server from a Dell server,
which has been having some mysterious problems,
to an HP MicroServer.
Everything - MySQL, OpenVPN, email (dovecot), httpd, etc -
except for openLDAP, which is taking more time
than everything else put together.
I haven't found any straightforward instructions
on this anywhere.

Migrating from Centos 5 NT4 style to Centos 7 issues
Hi.
I want to move my current domain running centos 5 to centos 7.
Samba3x ==>Samba4x
openldap 2.3x==>2.4.x
I move my ldap backup that I got from backups:
slapcap -l mydomain.ldif
Next move my config files to the new server:
/etc/ldap.conf
/etc/openldap/slapd.conf
/etc/openldap/ldap.conf
Schemas are correct.
Copy DB_CONFIG that doesn't exist on openldap 2.4, to /var/lib/ldap/

Samba + OpenLDAP: LDAP server is running but could not respond to a search request
Hi, all. I am trying to set up SAMBA PDC with OpenLDAP using smbldap-tools
from IDEALX. This is on a SLES 9 and I had run the latest online update as
well as SP1 and SP2 for it.
At this point smb is off and ldap is running.
I have gotten up to where I needed to test for:
ldapsearch -x -b "dc=sample,dc=com" "(ObjectClass=*)"

Windows XP joining Samba/LDAP domain problem (User cannot be found) [SOLVED]
To anyone out there who's having problems joining their Samba/LDAP
domain with XP here's a solution. The main symptom is that the XP join
domain gui returns a "user cannot be found" error. The setup that I
experienced this on was configured and managed using the smbldap-tools
package. Usual disclaimer applies if it fails to work, you are
responsible for backing up your

I'm new to this mailing list, i need help about a configuration with

Request to update slapd.conf and OpenLDAP info for Samba-Guide/happy.html
Dear Team,
The OpenLDAP stuff on this page:
http://us4.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html
is not the preferred backend, i.e. ldbm, it really, really needs to be bdb.
See:
http://www.openldap.org/faq/index.cgi?_highlightWords=bdb%20ldbm&file=1085
"ldbm uses a neutral storage interface which in principle could wrap dbm,
ndbm, gdbm or sleepycat as underlying storage;

How to move a samba PDC to a diffrent box
Hello List,
i have got a samba pdc running based on the smbldap tools and Debian Sarge.
Now we would like to move everything over to Ubuntu Hardy.
Can i simply:
- Create the same users and groups with the same id on Hardy
- Move the files and profiles over by keeping their permissions (rsync
-avzp ...)
- Set the samba SID to be the old orginial one (i do not know how this
could be done and if

samba4 + openldap: provisioning isnt working
Wiki seems to be out of date here. The wiki reference's [1] [2] a "setup/provision-backend"
script, as well as a "setup/provision" script, yet current git only has a setup/provision
executable. Some #samba and #openldap IRC advice was that provision-backend wasnt needed
anymore, but based off the errors i'm seeing, there's definitely _something_ missing, I just

Samba3 by example problems
Hi All,
I am going through a setup of a test samba3 box with rh9 with my self rolled
copy of 3.0.10. I have removed the old rpm version of samba. I compiled
3.0.10 with all defaults except for the install prefix which I set
to /usr/local/samba3.
I followed the steps given in Chap 6 - making users happy in the online html
version.
I changed a few things. Instead of MASSIVE as the PDC name I

Samba Schema Error? Setting up PDC with LDAP
I have samba 3.0.10 and OpenLDAP(slapd) 2.2.13 on a redhat enterprise 4
machine.
I have modified the slapd.conf file according to the official Smaba3 by
example book.
I have copied samba.schema from the samba directory
/usr/share/doc/samba-3.0.10/LDAP/ to /etc/openldap/schema and included it in
the slapd.conf file:

PDC migration from suse 8.2 - samba 2.2.7 ldap - to latest versions on ubuntu 8.04
Hello,
Hopefully I'm in the right place asking for help :-)
I need to move from an old physical Suse 8.2 - samba 2.2.7 + ldap - to
latest samba versions, I would like to use an ubuntu 8.04 virtual machine.
The domain is in production on the physical server, to be dismissed after
migration. It is also the file server!!! so /DATA/ has all shared and
permission driven file access..

Migrate SMB/LDAP to new server
I need to migrate my current LDAP/SMB PDC to a new server. I found the information on how to replace an existing server with a new system with the same name, but in my case, I still need the existing system to continue as a slave LDAP/SMB BDC. I used slapcat to get the ldap database, and then used this ldif to create the new ldap database on the new server. Linux logins work fine. I used

Copy *just* user accounts from LDAP?
Greetings All,
I have a Samba-controlled domain, with everything in LDAP.
I also have an off-site server that I rsync all our files to every couple
hours.
What I'd like to do is set up a new Samba domain on the off-site server so
users can log into it for disaster recovery purposes - and I'd like to
keep the user account information synchronized with the main server so
