Local mirroring of the CentOS repos
I figured I try if I can mirror the base and updates repos locally. There's no tutorial for that, only one about creating your own repo of packages which is not the same. So, I just mirrored all the stuff with wget and changed the baseurl in the repo files and hoped that's enough. Works. So easy you don't need a tutorial. *But* I then realized that the updates directory contains

Problem with local base repo
Last night my rsync got some 'new' files for the base repo and new repodata. This morning, I set a server to upgrade from 5 to 5.1 by setting it to access my local base and updates repos. I got the following error: Resolving Dependencies --> Populating transaction set with selected packages. Please wait. ---> Downloading header for openssh-clients to pack into transaction set.

cannot install glibc.i686 on x86_64
I cannot install glibc.i686 on a x86_64 system because I get Error: Missing Dependency: glibc-common = 2.5-81 is needed by package glibc-2.5-81.i686 (base) glibc-common.x86_64 is installed, but it's apparently looking for i686. There's indeed no glibc-common for i686. There's also glibc.i386 and glibc-common.i386 available, but I think I don't need them. I have other x86_64

how to update from 5.8 to 5.latest?
Eero Volotinen wrote on Mon, 15 Aug 2016 11:00:51 +0000: > Maybe your repodata cache was a bit old :) Yeah. I would have thought it checks the date of the file and tries to update it when it's that old. Anyway, clearing the whole yum cache was a good idea as I don't need the 5.8 rpms anymore. I just didn't think about that first, it's been long ... Thanks for the quick

Centos 5 & tls v1.2, v1.1
Yep, maybe using ssl offloading devices like (BigIP) that receives tls1.2 and tlsv1.2 and then re-encrypts traffic with tls1.0 might be "cheapest" solution. -- Eero 2015-04-17 14:15 GMT+03:00 Johnny Hughes <johnny at centos.org>: > On 04/16/2015 05:00 PM, Eero Volotinen wrote: > > in fact: modgnutls provides easy way to get tlsv1.2 to rhel 5 > > > > -- >

Problem with CentOS 5.11 virtual machine
Hello -- We completed an installation of CentOS 5.11 32-bit onto a Vmware ESXi 6.0.0 appliance for the purpose of running a legacy application. The hardware in question is a Dell PowerEdge R730xd system. The Vmware tools utility was installed onto the virtual machine, and that initially provided access to the network. Once that was done, patches from the CentOS repository were installed onto the

yum hangs when Reading Local RPMDB
All of a sudden yum hangs on a Centos 4.5 (updated to the latest patch before 4.6) when I try to use it. "clean metadata" didn't help. The output of -d5 shows it gets to the point of "Reading Local RPMDB" and then sits there. The process doesn't die, but doesn't seem to do anything from that point on. strace shows this: futex(0xb76dcae8, FUTEX_WAIT, 2, NULL I

So, if it fails to transform (although bigger) the machine hasn't enough entropy (because it's quite new?)? network-bridge breaks networking when eth0:1 is added
I added a virtual interface eth0:1 on one of my machines and suddenly networking breaks on startup of the system (eth0 is gone) when xend starts and runs the network-bridge script. This is supposed to be fixed according to: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi I checked and the network-bridge script contains this fix. It works fine on one of my PCs when eth0:1 is added, but not on this

Asymmetric encryption for very large tar file
Hello CentOS list, I have a requirement that I need to use encryption technology to encrypt very large tar file on a daily basis. The tar file is over 250G size and those are data backup. Every night the server generated a 250G data backup and it?s tar?ed into one tarball file. I want to encrypt this big tarball file. So far I have tried two technologies with no success. 1) generating RSA 2048

split auth from other logging
Is there a way to split the auth logging (logins and failed logins) from the other logging that goes to info_log_path = /var/log/dovecot/dovecot.log ? This log gets a lot of other info as well, most notably the lmtp notifications about every filed mail (with no level stamping, btw). This makes it really hard to find authentication errors quickly and comfortably. It would be nice to be able to

php on command line problems
The installed php on CentOS/RHEL is the CGI version. This means I should be able to get command line arguments with $GLOBALS[''argv''] or $_SERVER[''argv'']. That''s how the php documentation tells and how it works f.i. on Suse. However, on CentOS I get them only when I use the -n switch to php (no php.ini). The problem with -n is that php cannot find

split auth from other logging
I hoped I don't have to switch to syslog logging. Well, anyway. I changed 10-logging.conf: syslog_facility = uucp and commented out the other log lines. rsyslog.d/50-default.conf: uucp.debug -/var/log/dovecot/debug.log uucp.info -/var/log/dovecot/dovecot.log uucp.warn -/var/log/dovecot/warn.log uucp.err
