Xen 4.1.1 HVM guest cdrom trouble, lost interrupts, ata failed commands (frozen)
Hello, I was testing Fedora 16 (rc2) Xen host, with included Xen 4.1.1 rpms and Linux 3.1.0 dom0 kernel. Fedora 16 PV domUs seem to work nicely. I noticed a problem with Fedora 16 Xen HVM guests though. The F16 guest kernel (Linux 3.1.0) fails with the qemu-dm emulated DVD-ROM drive.. Full HVM guest kernel dmesg attached to this email. See the end of this email for Xen cfgfile for the

Failing Hard Disk?
Hi All, I am fairly certain that this disk is failing in my server, and I am replacing it straight away anyway. However, I'd appreciate the views of the list just to be sure as I value your opinion(s). I got these errors, once only so far, in /var/log/messages. This disk has / on it. SATA DVD Burner / AHCI / CentOS 4.7 (kernel: 2.6.9-78.0.22.EL)
OK, it seems that the kernel I have (stock CentOS 4.7: 2.6.9-78.0.22.EL i686) seems to gronk the nVideo SATA controller in AHCI mode. It is NOT able to deal with the SATA DVD Burner I have. It is a "Sony Optiarc DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model AD-7241S-0B LightScribe Support". Is there some special magic I need to do? Here is the relevant bit from the boot up (SATA ports

CentOS 5 + Nforce 4 SLI Intel SATA problems
I've been having an extremely hard time using the on board SATA controller on my nvidia based board. I have two 160gig Maxtor SATA drives attached to the on board controller, setup as software raid0. The problem is the array is extremely unreliable, where I'm getting constant I/O errors like: sd 0:0:0:0: SCSI error: return code = 0x00040000 end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector

PCI passthrough of a SATA/PATA controller, "FLR functionality not supported"
Hi there, I have a question regarding PCI passthrough on the Citrix XenServer 5.6 (Xen 3.4.2). I already managed to get some soundcard passed through to a Windows guest. So I think my knowledge about that topic isn''t _that_ low. But I cannot seem to pass through a SATA/PATA controller to a Linux guest. I have some additional CD/DVD burner (PATA) attached to a SATA/PATA controller

mainboard recommendations
Hi, As it has been brought to my attention (by several parties), my current MB does not support VT-d. Since I don''t feel like purchasing a brand new system, I have searched for replacement MB-s that would fit into my existing uATX case, support my C2D CPU, and support at least 4x2GB ram. I have narrowed it down to the following four models: SUPERMICRO MBD-C2SBM-Q-O (Q35 chipset)

Samba Secondary Groups
This has been bugging me for years but never got around to spending a lot of time on it until I now want/need to use it for work stuff. Problem is simple I get access denied when trying to create a file in a directory that is not owned by me or my primary group that doesn't have world writable permissions. Ive also had similar issues with NFS mounts where I can't move/create/delete files

"Phanton" domain controller problem...
Hi, Recently I reinstalled the OS on my Samba PDC, letting Linux FC3 installer do it's thing then overwriting the smb.conf with my old one. Now I find that although it tries but can't become Domain master browser again, although it is happy to become a local master, a login server and to serve files. The reason given in the log files is that there is another PDC on the submet at

Interrupt storm when disconnecting sata drives in 7.0-RC2 and 6.3
I've tested both 6.3 and 7.0-RC2, amd64 architecture, and have found the occurrence of an interrupt storm using an ASUS A8N-SLI Premium (nForce 4) motherboard with an AMD Opteron 175. SATA on Foxconn P4M9007MB-8RS2H motherboard
To those of you who may be interested, to get SATA drives to work on this motherboard with Xen 3.3.1 (compiled from source) you need to set SATA to RAID mode in the BIOS, not the default IDE mode. So I can only assume that the 2.6.18.8 kernel has a problem with the VIA SATA in IDE mode, and can''t recognise it, even though the host OS (Ubuntu 8.04LTS, in my case) has no problems with it.

hw question: asus dsbf-de sata ports?
Hello List, I'm hoping someone else out there has an Asus DSBF-DE server board, and can tell me if anything special needs to be done to get ports 5 and 6 of the onboard SATA to work under Centos 5.1 x64. I have drives on 1 through 4 that are detected and working properly, however, a drive on 5 is not detected, from what i can tell, the kernel doesn't even see phy's for ports 5 and 6.

SATA errors in log
Hi, I have a SATA PCIe 6Gbps 4 port controller card made by Startech. The kernel (Linux viz1 2.6.32-220.4.1.el6.x86_64) sees it as Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88SE9123 I use it to provide extra SATA ports to a raid system. The HD's are all "WD2003FYYS" and so run at 3Gbps on the 6Gbps controller. However I am seeing lots of instances of errors like this
