Icecast on Raspberry Pi
Is it possible to make Icecast run, for serving no more than 16 listeners, on Raspberry Pi? I simply want to dip my toe into the Linux universe, and this would be a fine excuse for me to try RP if it's doable. Thanks.

[RFC] Changing X86 data layout for address spaces
I really hate to dip my toe in here, because it will only reveal my total ignorance, but….
Do the "usual rules around addrspacecast" say when different address spaces can alias? I remember somebody using address spaces to represent something like special off-to-the-side device memory, which obviously could never alias main memory, whereas other uses like the 32/64-bit thing will

systemd equivalent of xinetd 'only_from' and 'banner_fail' attributes
I'm attempting to port an existing xinetd service from CentOS 6 to
something equivalent with systemd for CentOS 7
The existing xinetd config uses the attributes 'only_from' to limit
connections from a limited set of remote hosts and 'banner_fail' to
print a suitable error message when access is denied
However, I can't find suitable 'equivalents' with systemd

Rails on straight CGI - doable?
I''m planning on dipping my toe into the rails ocean after having
lurked here for a bit. From what I gather, rails *WILL* work on a
straight CGI based server setup, it''s just slow, right?
Since this is going to be for my own enlightenment, I just need to
confirm(/deny) it''ll work at all right now; I''ll work on the "fast"
later.

"All resource specifications require names": wot?
Hi, everyone --
I downloaded puppet and have been playing with it. I''m using the RPM''s for RHE4 created by David (mentioned on the install page: http://people.redhat.com/dlutter/yum/rhel4/) with RHE''s ruby 1.8.1-7:
ruby-1.8.1-7.EL4.8
ruby-libs-1.8.1-7.EL4.8
ruby-devel-1.8.1-7.EL4.8
I''m sure this is an easy one; all the same, I''m stumped. Please

LDA in R: how to extract full equation, especially constant term
Hi,
Having dipped my toe into R a few times over the last year or two, in the
last few weeks I've been using it more and more; I'm now a thorough
convert. I've just joined the list, because although it's great, I do have
this problem...
I'm using linear discriminant analysis for binary classification, and am
happy with the classification performance using predict(). What

tftp-hpa 5.2
Hello everyone,
I am having difficulties in setting up a tftp server on a Fedora 3.14.8-200.fc20.x86_64.
Running tftp client to test the server functionality, a simple get from the terminal prompts 'Transfer timed out.' back.
The version is tftp-hpa 5.2, with remap, with tcpwrappers, unfortunately I am not able to find any log in the system journal.?
The server and related services appear

Question regarding SWAT
Hi everyone,
In the last few days I've spended hours and hours on the web surching for a solution to my problems. Eventhough it looked like there where several other people having the same problem I couldn't find a way to solve it.
Therefore I'm hoping that one of you could help me with the following problem.
I've installed Samba 3.0.14a on RedHat 9.0. Samba is working perfectly.

linear contrasts with anova
I have some doubts about the validity of my procedure to estimeate linear contrasts ina a factorial design.
For sake of semplicity, let's imagine a one way ANOVA with three levels. I am interested to test the significance of the difference between the first and third level (called here contrast C1) and between the first and the seconda level (called here contrast C2). I used the following

VNCServer Startup Config
hi all,
I've inherited a server with CentOS 6.4
the VNC Server starts up with the OS and its screen resolution is set to
800x600.
I found that I can set the resolution by specifying the -geometry
switch, but I can't find where the call to start the vncserver is set in
order to change it.
I know that it's not in /etc/xinetd.d (the only file there is rsync)

Generic X100P setup issues
I am starting to dip my toes into the asterisk world, and to that end
I've scavenged an old PC (this is a home project, and I have basically
$0 to spend on it), and installed FC1. I've purchased a clone X100P (or
at least I was told it was), and I am trying to get it to work. However,
when I try and load the wcfxo module, I get the following errors...

I am wanting to restart xinetd
when I do "service xinetd restart"
it says xinetd unrecognized service

Yet Another DIP Exploit?
I seem to have stumbled across another vulnerability in DIP. It
appears to allow any user to gain control of arbitrary devices in /dev.
For instance, I have successfully stolen keystrokes from a root login as
follows... (I could also dump characters to the root console)
$ whoami
cesaro
$ cat < /dev/tty1 <------ root login here
bash: /dev/tty1: Permission denied

Nested Class
Hi:
I have something like this:
class xinetd {
... some Puppet code ...
class xinetd::telnet {
... some Puppet code ...
}
}
node ''host1'' {
include xinetd::telnet
}
However, when running Puppet says it can''t find class xinetd::telnet.
I can include xinetd so I know my site.pp correctly includes all .pp
files.
I am running Puppet 2.6.0.
Thanks

p-values for the dip test
Hi all,
I am using Hartigan & Hartigan's [1] "dip test" of unimodality via the
diptest package in R. The function dip() returns the value of the test
statistic but I am having problems calculating the p-value associated with
that value. I'm hoping someone here is familiar with this process and can
explain it.
In the original article there is an example using n=63 and a

EL6, xinetd, and permissions. What am I missing?
Staging for a rollout of EL 6, and ran into a very strange permissions issue
with xinetd that defies all (my) logic.
It's a script called "spfiled" that we use for messaging between our server
cluster servers. I'm trying to get it to run with "least permissions
necessary". Because it reads/writes files in conjunction with a web-based
service, it runs as user

hi,
i upgraded to samba 2.2.7 and since this nmbd (configured to start from
xinetd)
doesn't start! i sent SIGHUP to xinetd and can see that configuration is ok
(netbios-ns
is readjusted) but nmbd doesn't start!!
when i start nmbd by hand with "-D" i see many messages from xinetd in

xinetd v. tcp-wrappers
I am interested in opinions regarding the use of xinetd versus
the use of tcp wrappers. The two programs have similar functionality,
but I find xinetd suits my needs better.
The biggest problem is the age of xinetd, and AFAIK it is no longer
being kept up. Are there any known security issues with xinetd?
Another issue is that xinetd makes use of a non-standard inetd.conf
layout, but

xinetd, what's the trick?
Hello,
I've succefuly installed samba 2.2.2 on my Linux box. I can share between
Linux and MS boxes, but I want to start samba from xinetd.
In /etc/xinetd.d/ I have this:
