the 2308 isn't actually a megaraid, its a simple SAS HBA that has an
optional raid mode IF its flashed with IR firmware... this only supports
raid 0/1/10. I always(!) flash these with the IT firmware that
turns them back into a

to get info out of those, you need to install MegaCli64 from LSI Logic,
which has the ugliest command lines and output you've ever seen.
I use the python script below, which I put in

One way to find out is to plug 4TB drive and take a look. Another is to
ask one who has the same controller to do the same for you. I am going to

Semi-OT: LSI raid card sorta....
I've got a box running C7, just updated (yesterday). It had an onboard
RAID controller, and an HBA. I just installed a new, additional RAID card,
all LSI.
MegaCli64 only sees one controller. I can't seem to find the magic to see
the others. I *know* the new card is a MegaRAID - the box it came in says
so. The system sees it

MegaRAID, and creating a RAID 1 while live
I've started searching, but if anyone here has a link.... I *just*
discovered yesterday, to my dismay, that a previous admin built a box that
has four hot-swap bays as two as RAID 1... and the other two as RAID 0.
Honest, I thought I was pulling the failing drive out of a RAID 1, not
that the RAID 0 contained all the websites for a production box....
So, what I want to do is this: it's a

My firmware seems to be more up to date. Anyway, I will try to update
firmware. I have to check how to do that.

megaraid/PERC
I've got two drives from a now-dead server, they were RAIDed, a mirror,
I'd assume. I need to see if there's anything on them I need to transfer
to the replacement, so I just shoved them into another Dell server, with a
PERC 5 controller - I think that's what the dead one had. I fired up
MegaRAID storage manager... but can't see any way to tell it to recreate
that RAID. Anyone

A strange situation with MegaCli64 and smartctl
We have a system - it's C 7 - that a while back lost three drives of a
large array. The other admin here replaced the failed drives, but never
went through the MegaRAID replace series of commands.
I've just brought it back up and put a new filesystem on it, but here's
what's odd: if I do smartctl -a -d megaraid,x /dev/sda, where x=drive
number, for all the other drives, I get

works here fine on the 9261, which is an OEM version of the same card
with the connectors in a different orientation... you might check your
LSI firmware revision.

slightly off-topic, RAID program for on-board SAS 2308-4i ?
Does anyone know what program can be used to query the RAID status
from the OS for an on-board LSI SAS 2308-4i?
On this page:
http://docs.avagotech.com/docs/12351997
there is a curious note on the left that reads:

rejecting I/O to offline device (PERC woes)
Haven't gotten any tips on a solution to the problem below.
It happened again this weekend.
My next test steps (order not determined):
1. Downgrade to CentOS 4
2. Swap out PERC controller with a spare
I have never had a problem with the PERC4/DC controllers on our
other machines (RHEL3/4, CentOS 4). Although, I've no other
machine that has 5 300G Fujitsu SCSI drives either.

CentOS4 and older megaraid
Release notes say no support for the RAID card in a box I just picked
up...is there no hope for this box running 2.6 kernel?
http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-4-Manual/release-

The kernel shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 includes the new
megaraid_mbox driver from LSI Logic, which replaces the megaraid driver.
The megaraid_mbox driver has an improved design,
