Need advice with a "hot running" graphics card
Hello all-- I have a old Radeon HD 2400 graphics card in my desktop connected by DVI to my monitor. It may be my imagination but it seems that since upgrading to 6.8 recently, after about 4 hours of use, my system seems to run "hot". I don't think its the man power until but maybe the graphics card? I found references to odd/high power consumption with radeons an particular

DOS line ends on /var/log/boot.log on CentOS 6.7 ?
Hello all -- Recently, I'm seeing DOS line ends, ^M, on my /var/log/boot.log file. Honestly, I don't check this very often so I can't say exactly when this occurred. Is this just MY experience or are others seeing this also. Additionally, boot/log seems very sparse. Is an old issue still in force on this? https://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=17313 ?Should I get the updated

influence.measures(stats): hatvalues(model, ...)
Hello: I am trying to understand the method 'hatvalues(...)', which returns something similar to the diagonals of the plain vanilla hat matrix [X(X'X)^(-1)X'], but not quite.  A Fortran programmer I am not, but tracing through the code it looks like perhaps some sort of correction based on the notion of 'leave-one-out' variance is being applied. Whatever the

Plain requirement: desktop search
Just wondering, what exactly is supported/suggested: I need a comprehensive desktop search functionality. Not only searching for file names but also for content and meta data. The environment is EL6.8 / Gnome2. I have noticed that "beagle" is not part of the distro anymore. Any suggestions for such requirement? Thanks! LF

Desktop lag with CentOS7/Mate and high CPU usage
We have noticed significant desktop/UI lag on CentOS7 workstations using Mate when the CPU usage is high - i.e. the mouse pointer lags and moving windows (e.g. terminal windows) become jumpy (not smooth) We didn't see (or notice) this issue with CentOS6/Gnome2 This can easily be shown by running something like 'cpuburn' (https://patrickmn.com/projects/cpuburn/) and moving a

[PATCH 0/3] drm/tegra: Add support for fence FDs
From: Thierry Reding <treding at nvidia.com> This set of patches adds support for fences to Tegra DRM and complements the fence FD support for Nouveau. Technically this isn't necessary for a fence-based synchronization loop with Nouveau because the KMS core takes care of all that, but engines behind host1x can use the IOCTL extensions provided here to emit fence FDs that in turn can be

Aquamacs Preferences not showing, windows inaccessible, Scrolling not possible !!!
Hi, sorry for bothering, but I suspect the start of M-x R within Aquamacs is causing my problems: *Scrolling* is *not possible*, neither by key stroke nor by mouse. Aquamacs does not show all windows. 'Prefences', 'About A.', 'Check fo updates' will not open. Menu 'windows' shows several windows, but clicking on them will not open their buffers. Also,

Replicate desktop configuration for other users using /etc/skel
Hi, The subject says it all. I'd like to copy my own custom desktop configuration for other users on the machine without having to go manually through the hassle. Here's a non-exhaustive list of what I usually tweak : * Theme + icons * background image * panel * screensaver * Nautilus behaviour * Handling of removable devices * Gnome Terminal * Gnome Dictionary (french servers) *

flac123 revival
Hello Dan Johnson, hello list, It's really weird that there's no working command line player for FLAC files. Dan Johnson created flac123 (licensed under the GPL) to fill that gap, and started the flac-tools project. Unfortunately, flac123 doesn't work anymore with the latest FLAC, and the flac-tools project has been idle for more than a year. I created a patch that makes flac123

Desktop for newbies
My vote is still for KDE It's got a similar feel to Windows before it went pear shaped at Win8. It's fairly easy to use. He should be able to do most stuff as a user. Desktop cleared after reboot through VNC
Hello all, After issuing the reboot command on my CentOS server while being logged in through VNC and after the machine has actually rebooted, I get a blank desktop (no icons and not my default wall paper) when logging into X, whether I'm on the console or logging in through VNC. If I go into my Desktop folder in my home directory, I see all the appropriate .desktop files (but I don't
