Slightly OT: PCIe x16 card in x8 slot
So, in the ongoing saga of the unusual 1U short-depth
workstation, we have narrowed the field to two choices.
Both entrants are configured with 16GB memory (4x4GB),
two 2.5" drives (1x250GB SSD and 1x1TB HDD),
and an NVIDIA NVS510 graphic card (quad display):
1) SuperMicro 5017R-MF, Xeon E5-2609 processor

About Porting Android to nouveau
Hi, guys:
I’m a developer of FydeOS. We porting ChromiumOS to amd64 and arm platforms. Now, I’m woking on porting android environment to Nvidia graphic cards. I have experience to port android to Vmware(SVGA).
I found two display formats were not supported to display in nouveau driver: PIPE_FORMAT_R8G8B8A8_UNORM, PIPE_FORMAT_R8G8B8X8_UNORM. Which are defined at nv50/nv50_formats.c line: 130,131.

SMF services for Xen
1. Introduction
This case introduces the SMF services used by a Solaris-based domain 0 when
running on Xen, or a Xen-compatible hypervisor. All of these services only
run on domain 0 when booted under Xen virtualisation.

CentOS 7.2 Installation - Anaconda Installer Security Policy Configuration
The Anaconda installer now provides a "Security Policy", although
selecting any of the available profiles does not seem to have much
effect on the overall installation. Has anyone here had any success
with using the kickstart file that is installed when "Pre-release Draft
STIG for CentOS Linux 7 Server" profile is selected? The upstream
vendor's security guide doesn't

Alternative IP addresses
My CentOS-7 home server has a static IP address.
Is there a simple way of organizing the hpptd server
so that it is accessible through this address at a remote host,
but is accessed at its 192.168 address by a laptop on the WiFi LAN?

Processes left unkilled (portable)
I just came across this problem (on Linux, using OpenSSH 2.9.9p2). Run
ssh <host> "tail -f <file> | grep <regexp>"
Let it connect, and then hit ^C. If you look on <host>, the tail
process has been orphaned, but grep, which was its parent, and a direct
child of sshd, is gone.
It appears that the immediate child of the sshd (grep) is sent a SIGTERM

join domain - ou=people searched for machine accounts?
When I try to join a domain from a win2k client to a samba 3.0.5
PDC, I get the message "User not found". I use ldapsam, which
works fine in all other respects.
The strange thing is that the smbldap-useradd scripts terminates
with 0, the machine account is created under "ou=systems" in the
ldap database - all looks fine. Then a ldap search is triggered
with a base
