[Slightly OT] Use CentOS to create a bootable Mac OS X DVD from dmg file?
Hi, Sorry if this is only half-CentOS-related. In my office, I'm running CentOS on all my systems (server, workstation, laptop, sandbox PCs). A colleague brought me her MacBook Pro to upgrade it from OS X 10.5.7 to 10.11.6. I downloaded the 5.8 GB dmg file and now I wonder how to create a bootable DVD with this using only Linux tools. 1. Can I simply burn this as a data DVD with K3B? 2.

Recommended REPO Setup for Desktop on Cos5
CentOS is simply great. I use it as my main desktop. I use VMWare clients for any "special needs" software. I am struggling a bit with the plethora of repos and looking for some advice. Would you opine with detail on the best repo setup for a desktop CentOS 5? Comments: rpmforge provides fine rpms. kbsingh, google, adobe, kde-redhat, CentOS-Testing , CentOS-fastrack, epel,

Monitoring a remote server with Conky ?
Hi, I've been using Conky for some time, a nifty utility to monitor just about anything on the PC. Vital things like CPU, RAM, swap, disks, current song playing in MPD :o) Here's what it looks like : http://www.microlinux.fr/images/bureau_conky.png And with more detail : http://www.microlinux.fr/images/conky_zoom.png Now I wonder... I'd really like to use that to monitor my

XScreenSaver
Hi, I'm currently moving all our local school's desktop clients from Slackware 14.1 to CentOS 7 + Xfce. Right now I'm fine-tuning the default user profile. I have a problem with XScreenSaver. The application per se works very well. Only there's a hard-coded pop-up window that reminds the user that he's not running the latest version. So, if I'm running version 5.36 as

Can't install Kaffeine from RPMForge repo
Hi, I'm currently fiddling with the KDE desktop just to see if it suits our users better than the default GNOME. I configured the RPMForge repos and launched a 'yum install kaffeine'. After packages are downloaded, I get the following error: Running Transaction Test Finished Transaction Test Transaction Check Error: file /usr/share/mimelnk/application/x-mplayer2.desktop from

Weird problems with CentOS 7.6 1810 installer
Hi, I just updated my installation media for CentOS. I have a few sandbox PCs in my office, and I'm testing CentOS 7.6 1810 on them. There seem to be a few issues with the CentOS 7.6 1810 DVD. Checked DVD integrity on startup : OK. First attempt : installer froze on root password dialog. Second attempt : installer froze on dependency calculation. Third attempt : installer froze on network

CentOS 7 + GNOME : all icon themes broken after update from CR
Hi, I just upgraded one of my CentOS 7 + GNOME desktops from the CR repo. After the upgrade, it seems like all of the icon themes are broken. Missing icons everywhere. Any idea what's going on here ? Ark can't handle RAR archive

Rsync and full path of filenames
Hi, I have a bit of a tricky question about rsync. Let's say I want to backup a bunch of configuration files with rsync, in a script. What I don't want to do : a full snapshot of /etc. What I want to do : backup only those files I need, in an otherwise empty directory tree. In my script, I'd begin with a list of the files I effectively want to backup. Something like :

rpmforge vs epel
I've been informed that rpmforge and epel do not play well together and that if I use both, epel should have the higher (lower numbered) priority. Alas I had it the other way around. rpmforge messed up my effort to get audacity. I no longer need audacity, but would like to fix the situation before some other problem crops up. Would fixing the priorities and telling yum to reinstall all the

Password manager for the command line ?
Hi, On my workstation and my laptop I'm using KeePassXC to store login credentials for my websites. The database is stored in my OwnCloud share, so it's synchronized between my two computers. Ideally I'd like to have something similar for my servers, but command-line driven. I know these tools exist but I haven't tested them yet. What I have in mind is a command-line password

CentOS, PHP & OwnCloud/Nextcloud: the version dilemma
Hi, I'm currently experimenting with OwnCloud and Nextcloud on a sandbox CentOS 7 server. I've been using OwnCloud for the last two years for my own purposes on a Slackware server, and I'm quite happy with it. In my humble opinion, every admin who wants to host OwnCloud or Nextcloud on a RHEL/CentOS server is confronted with a version dilemma. 1. CentOS 7 sports PHP 5.4, which has

Use EPEL without redirection ?
Hi, Is there any way to deactivate the redirection to a mirror when using the third-party EPEL repository ? Our network uses a transparent HTTP/HTTPS proxy with a local AC. We can create exceptions for sites like centos.org or download.fedoraproject.org, but whenever we want to install a package from EPEL, the mirror redirection causes an error due to redirection. Any suggestions ? Niki --
