Windows XP cannot join Samba 4AD but win 7 can.
Hello everybody,
I've got some troubles making Win XP join may samba4 AD, and, well, i'm
kind of stuck !
I use the binary distribution of Samba 4 for Ubuntu Trusty Server
(4.1.6), with bind9 DLZ as a DNS backend.
Everything works fine with Win7 workstations, but I get a message
"Internal Error" on Win XP workstation during the domain join.
The machine account is created on

Samba 4 internal DNS - how to modify SOA record
Hello,
I have the very same problem, does anybody know a way?
I am thinking of converting to BIND, modifying and then converting it back
to Internal DNS implementation.

Hello.
How could one modify a SOA record in rc3? For example, NS part (not NS
record) of SOA record points to an absent Windows server. This
effectively breaks DNS updates, since there is no such server and if

status on samba trusts
Hi Stefan, others,
Just to report back that things work very nicely now that DNS is using
one dns proxy that resolves both AD domains. I am testing now with a
'full' two-way trust, and everyhing seemed to work, including the tests
from samba-tool and from windows "domains and trusts" perspective.
From an administrative point of view, the fact that your have to add

new DC via clone..
Hi Kees,
I do have working backups and snapshots for sure. After my experiment yesterday I just reverted to the previous snapshot (knowing that samba-ad-dc was down all the time and no inconsistency could enter my domain doing so). I also mentioned somewhere that it is not just samba and bind, but also sshd, docker, pi-hole and stubby. On one instance I also have freeradius. Samba alone is just

Just like Microsoft, Samba doesn't recommend using a DC for other
services and running it in some form of VM doesn't make it different.

removing exported resources
Hello everybody.
I have a question about removing exported resources. How is this done?
Does it happen automagically?
If I do:
@@file{"/tmp/bla":
content => "blahs content",
ensure => present,
}
and thus export "/tmp/bla" to another host does it vanish by itself as
soon as I remove the definition, or would I need to state something

SOLVED - Re: login to ms access db very slow on samba 3.x
Hello everybody, Hi Jorge
We have found a solution to the problem I've posted earlier to this
mailing list; see below for the full history. There was a function in our
runtime application which would rebuild all links to external access
tables each time the application was started. To keep it short, we're
checking the presence of a certain value when starting (in the windows

Data loss
Hello everybody,
it happened with my RH73 that the same partition (ext3 fs, of course) was mounted
onto
two different mount points ( "/" and "/mnt/removable" respectively) and a copy of
files
from one path to another (e.g. "cp /opt/myfile /mnt/removable/opt) reveiled to be
an overwriting procedure. Now I have 0 byte size files on /mnt/removable (aka "/")

Samba 4.1.6 + RPC Problem + DNS + RSAT
Hy everybody,
I have a little problem. Since a crash of my server we have problems to connect over the RSAT tools to our Samba 4 domain with the DNS tool.
At the moment we have a Centos 6.5 server with Version 4.1.6-SerNet-RedHat-7.el6.
If I connect to the AD server with the RSAT tool, i get this message in the log.smb:
dnsserver: Found DNS zone _msdcs.nagy-blumen.at

Can't get Local DNS to Run [Was[ remove wins entries - samba 3]]
Further on this. I just ran an ethereal trace on an attempt to ping
lserver1 from lserver1, and it appears that my DNS isn't staying local
at all, but I have no idea what's gone wrong (other than my
/etc/resolv.conf file). The trace (I'd include the relevant parts, but
I can't get it to save anything in textual form) had lserver1.test.biz
