How to set hostname and domainnmae in CentOS 7?
Not sure about everyone else, but I always put my hostname in /etc/hosts.
Maybe that's from years of not always having DNS available back when the
earth was cooling.

This behaviour plays havoc with templated VMs though or any time you can't

I see that I couldn't previously find it with systemctl because it is a
"static" service, neither enabled nor disabled. What is

hostname on centos 7.1
Greetings everyone.
I have some CentOS 7 VMs running on the system for which I just made the inquiry about the kworker problem, and I was able to institute immediate change of hostname by updating the /etc/hostname file.
I have network manager running on the host, as well, and it also has the name populated in this file.
When I make the change in /etc/hostname, it takes immediate effect, and

hostname on centos 7.1
I have a file /etc/sysconfig/network and in the file is
cat /etc/sysconfig/network
# Created by anaconda
HOSTNAME=zotac_c7.msgnet.com
[root at localhost ~]#
I rebooted and the prompt is still localhost ?
What is the new thing in CentOS 7 to set the host name
such that then the prompt is correct also?
Thanks

After upgrade to 4.9.4, internal DNS no longer working
Hai Viktor,
Yes, i did keep that in mind that it was an upgrade, that exact why im responding. ;-)
If in the base /etc/hostname, /etc/nsswitch.conf and /etc/resolv.conf or systemd cointains wrong settings, you might inherit these.
So it might be that a previous samba was accepting these settings, but a latest samba not.
Or a previous systemd version accepted these and a newer not..

Central hostname management?
Hi,
Our local school has a 100 % Slackware Linux network with two servers
and 14 desktop clients.
The main server is running Dnsmasq, and he's providing static IP
addresses to the desktop clients. Hostnames are also managed centrally.
All client machines only have this in /etc/hosts:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
And in /etc/HOSTNAME:
localhost.localdomain
The hostname

Short or long hostname ?
Hi,
For the last ten years or so, I've defined the short hostname in
/etc/hostname and the FQDN in /etc/hosts. Now I wanted to double-check
this information, which eventually led me to this page:
*
https://serverfault.com/questions/331936/setting-the-hostname-fqdn-or-short-name
Now I admit I'm even more confused than before.
Is there some reliable piece of information on this subject

Assistance with doveadm backup...
I am having trouble locating examples of how to use doveadm backup. All the examples I see are for sync. I simply want to create a backup to a network volume of the email server's vmail folders. The goal here is to have a reasonably current backup should the main drive on the email server go south.
We currently authenticate our users from a mysql database. User?s mailboxes are stored as

C7 and /etc/sysconfig/network
Does Centos 7 use /etc/sysconfig/network or is this replaced by some
systemctl set of commands.
For example I know to set my host name with:
hostnamectl set-hostname nevia.htt-consult.com
But I don't know if this is the same as
cat <<EOF>/etc/sysconfig/network || exit 1
NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME=nevia.htt-consult.com
EOF

Disabling network service in CentOS 7
Hi all,
I've recently started using NetworkManger service and nmcli tool, I like it
much better than the old network service and manually modifying network
scripts. I've seen many online questions on how to disable NetworkManger
but I have the opposite question! I am wondering if it be OK to disable
network service altogether and just use NetworkManger for configuring and
managing Ethernet
