Wine almost immediately crashes X
Okay, so I've done the requisite searching around, and I'm either missing something unbelievably simple, or something funny is going on here. I'm attempting to run a couple of simple games under Wine 0.9.57 in Gutsy on my new System76 laptop. When I attempt to run either of them, the loading graphic comes up, but the moment they attempt to change to fullscreen, X crashes. No warnings,

"upstream testing"??
Which System76 model? How is the install media created? Presumably it's a USB stick, but how is it being created? The easiest and most reliable is to use dd. Livecd-tools is also reliable but has a number of options required to boot UEFi systems. LiveUSB Creator should work. Everything else is prone to failure. CentOS 6.4 is kinda old for new hardware. You're better off looking at CentOS

DBAN and vesamenu.c32
I'm integrating DBAN (http://dban.sourceforge.net/) into our PXE boot menu system (using vesamenu.c32) but it just hangs when I'm using vesamenu.c32 and confusingly when I revert our menu system to using vesa.c32 it works ok. I've stripped out any extraneous configuration but it still seems to have the same problem. When I use this in pxelinux.cfg it boots into DBAN ok: default

BUG: SAMBA 3.5.x and IBM TSM
Hi! I am using SAMBA 3.5.x and it doesn't work with IBM TSM. IBM TSM works properly with SAMBA 3.2.15. Is there any chance to solve this issue in future SAMBA versions? Facebooker MQ now on RubyForge
I don''t know if anyone is using this but I just fixed a bunch of bugs, some big ones, and moved this project to RubyForge SVN servers. So you can get it here now: script/plugin install http://facebooker-mq.rubyforge.org/svn/trunk/facebooker-mq/ This is working great for me on a couple of projects. Here is the README Updated: 3/14/2008 Purpose: The purpose of FacebookerMQ is to

slightly OT: dban
I'm trying to nuke a Dell Optiplex GX620. I've got a perfectly good dban 1.0.4 that I've used a bunch of times... but on this machine, it says starting, then dies, saying "dban has finished with non-fatal errors. Check the log for more information" It never gets to the interactive menu. Now that I've disabled the non-existant floppy drive, at least it does say "to

Utility to zero unused blocks on disk
DBAN is obsolete. NIST 800-88 for some time now says to use secure erase or enhanced security erase or crypto erase if supported. Other options do not erase data in remapped sectors. Chris Murphy

Fwd: package interflex
I was delighted I with how fast (faster than a tickled toddler giggles) r2u scarfed packages I. up my Pop!_OS (Ubuntu in party attire tuned for System76). But, despite 40 years as my own sys admin (classic fool for a client?), I bolluxed up, ending up with an install chain that was inferior to compiling from source, despite having to occasionally track down system dependencies. Absolutely no

Samba & Tivoli Storage Mgr (TSM) Integration Query ???
All, Can anyone confirm that Samba/Solaris will integrate with TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager) when deployed into a Wintel client environment. ie. Solaris/Samba as a TSM client - we need to be sure that the ACL's will be maintained correctly via a TSM backup/restore (full or partial) Or confirm this does not work, which is not what we want to hear - but the truth will suffice. Many thanks,

Write pure sine to *.ogg directly?
Hello, I am author of a Morse code training software written in Perl at http://starling.ws/morse Currently I output to *.wav and, if on Unix, convert to *.ogg. And that's okay for a trainer. But I have desire to upgrade the project to a real-time communication tool...or at least a Morse code audio mail routine. And I should like to avoid *.wav. I'd like some means of writing a pure

samba GPFS and HSM?
Hi - I was wondering if any of you may be able to point me in the right direction. I am in the process of designing a fairly large fileserver solution in an MS Active directory environment. I have setup and tested ctdb samba, however, after several discussions with a couple of my colleagues, i am now considering a more vanilla flavour of samba. The key features the solution requires are: •

background process
Hi all I am working on a heavy engineering project. And the requirement is that I needto do a lot of process before I store the data to the db. Now the question is that I want to do the process that I am doing but I want to do it in the background. What I actually mean to say is that..I just want the user to get a msg that Records Saved. But in real I want the process to go on in background.

Wiping USB drives
Hi, I have a dozen of drives, ranging from 10Gb to 200Gb. I want to wipe them clean before donating them. I have a IDE/SATA to USB converter that works. I can see the drives properly. DBAN does not currently support external USB drive. Any other alternatives? -- Thanks http://www.911networks.com When the network has to work
