Python hashlib and ripemd160
okay it appears there are no suspect patent issues with ripemd160 so
either they just didn't include it for some other reason or the issue is
elsewhere.

how is the sha fingerprint generated?
You really don't need openssl for that.
And the fingerprints are simple.
Here is a python script that do the same as ssh-keygen
-fl /path/to/key :
#!/usr/bin/env python3
import binascii
import hashlib
import sys
if __name__ == "__main__":
key = binascii.a2b_base64(sys.argv[1])
if sys.argv[2] == "md5":
m = hashlib.new("md5")

hmac-ripemd160 not in PROTOCOL
Hi there,
I noticed that hmac-ripemd160 and hmac-ripemd160 at openssh.com are not listed in the OpenSSH protocols file, yet they are listed in myproposal.h. I was wondering whether this is intentional, if yes, what the rationale behind this is?
Thanks,

Try putting !!! (three exclamation symbols) in front of which(...)==....

Syntax Problem
I admit I am stuck. I am converting a legacy php site to ROR. The old
site uses MD5, a security flaw waiting to happen. I upgraded to AAA
and am adding code in the session_controller.rb file to see if
crypted_password is blank. If it is, crypt and check the password
against the old md5 version and write it in the new crypted_password
field.
Here is my code add on before the logged_in?:

ActiveRecord::RecordNotSaved - bizarre behaviour.
Hi. I get a RecordNotSaved exception when trying to create a user record.
The error:

SQL (0.000466) COMMIT
ActiveRecord::RecordNotSaved (ActiveRecord::RecordNotSaved):

As you can see, there''s no INSERT SQL generated, which is the root cause
of the problem.

Rpy2 and Mac OS X 10.8.3
I am having a strange problem. I have been using python + rpy2 on my Mac
for quite sometime now. I recently upgraded to OS X 10.8 from 10.6 and
that's when the problem began.
Now, when I try to load some R packages (like zoo) using robjects.r, python
crashes with seg fault 11. Here's an example below:

comparing ajax.updater div in js
This is really bugging me no matter what I''m trying.
In javascript, I''m using the ajax.updater, and it (obviously) writes
back out to a div. I want to then compare what was echoed out into
this div (which came from the php file I listed in ajax.updater) with
a string.
test should equal "SomeString" because that is what is being echoed

AIX: TypeError: unsupported operand type(s) for +: '_hashlib.HASH' and 'str'
Hi there!
We're trying to compile Samba 4.0.0 on a fresh install of AIX 6.1 (6100-02-01-0847), with Python RPM's from perzl.org installed into /opt/freeware. We're also using XLC 12.1.
Unfortunately, we can't even run ./configure, as we're getting errors from the waf system. Here's what we get:

syncpassword and (strange) base64...
I've setup in my domain the 'samba-tool user syncpasswords' to catch
password changes, to propagate correctly to some legacy system.
I've done some tests, but today i've found the ''daemon'' is not
running. After fiddling a bit, i've found the culprit came from the
fact that a user have a base64 version of the password as:

de-crypting Ruby password with php.
Hello all, I have a client with an older Rails 1.8 app (was recently
upgraded from 1.6) and I need to integrate a php site to use the same
user login creds.
I''m not very versed with Ruby but I think this is the code that
encrypts the password.

# Encrypts some data with the salt.
