no longer goes to standby when lid is closed
I've heard this happening to someone on IRC, the solution if I remember correctly is to update MATE from epel-testing.
See if that works for you.

Switch off laptop screen when docked with lid close - CentOS 7
Hi,
I'm using CentOS on a laptop that part of the time is connected to a
docking station with two monitor connected to it. When the laptop lid is
docked, its lid is closed, as the system is placed in a position where
it's not convenient to keep it open, let alone look at the screen.
Now in the past, with CentOS 5 (on a different laptop, but same physical
config) and 6, the screen has

Why report LVDS as disconnected when lid is closed?
What's the motivation behind commit 60821e0 (drm/nouveau: report LVDS
as disconnected if lid closed)? The only noticeable effect I can see
from it is that if I turn on my laptop and then close the lid, X fails
to start as it can't find any screens. In fact, if I close the lid
before nouveau initialises, I don't even get a framebuffer console.
I know I can just use the ignorelid

Laptop turns off after lid closed Centos6
Folks
I have a laptop which i am using temporarily as a test server. It is
permanently plugged in. It is running Centos 6, command line
only. In the past, I could close the lid, thereby turning off the
display, but not turning off the machine. It remained running indefinitely.
A recent update (this past week) changed that behavior. Now, when I
close the lid, the laptop turns itself off

Preventing laptop from sleeping when lid closed?
How can I prevent the laptop from sleeping when the lid is closed. I tried
messing with the settings in gnome-power-preferences but that doesn't seem
to prevent it when no one is logged in. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Dave

How to get status of notebook lid?
Hello,
I am using CentOS 5.1 on a toshiba tecra 8000 notebook. That works
great so far. The only thing I could not realize is to shutdown the
notebook if closing the lid. Therefor I need the current status (open
or close) of the lid, but I don't know how.
Is there any way to get this status, maybe under /proc/ or by some
command?

RE: standby mode
I think you answered your own question. Samba (smbd) is a service. It is
doing its job and ready to offer service at any time. Apparently this
involves periodically accessing the disk. There is nothing wrong with this;
it is normal operation. Samba won't work anyway when you are in standby, so
you might as well stop it when you are done using it.

Displays goes in standby mode on boot when HDMI/DVI used (VM + PCI passthrough)
Hi
I have an issue with a Nvidia GeForce 710 graphic card since several weeks,
probably related to a bug in Nouveau.
Here is my setup :
A Computer based on X58 chipset running Proxmox VE 4.x. The graphic card is
used by a qemu-kvm virtual machine running Debian 9 testing thanks to PCI
passthrough.
The issue : the graphic card has 1 VGA, 1 DVI, 1 HDMI outputs. If a DVI or
HDMI monitor is plugged

Replicating SIP registration Info between active to standby
I have a scenario whereby two servers are acting in active-standby mode.
In case the active server fail, the shared IP is activated on standby
server for continuity.
However, SIP phones (all are Polycom) takes quite a long time to register
to the Standby Server (up to 1-10min). While Polycom allow double
registration, we would like to make it simple by provision only one
registration server at a

drive to standby after idle timeout?
I'd like to to put the hard drives in standby mode during periods of
no activity. I'm just running a file server plus a couple small
things on a Qube 3 from home, although the web stuff will increase
it's still minimal.
On my NetBSD systems I can use atactl to do this via:
mount -u -o async,noatime,nodevmtime /
mount -u -o async,noatime /usr
atactl wd0 setidle 5

Windows not reconnecting after Standby
Thank you very much. I can confirm that the TAP-WIN32 driver behaves
differently. The quick tests so far revealed that it either reconnected
after Standby and Hibernation.
I think that at some point I started using the OpenVPN drivers when I had
either had trouble with unsigned drivers or the network detection and then
just stayed with it. Thanks for pointing out my self-made problem.

Windows not reconnecting after Standby
Hello,
I am using tinc for about two years now, and server-side everything is
perfect. But on my Windows 10 computer using tinc 1.1 and the OpenVPN TAP
Provider 9.0.0.21 I always have to shutdown and restart the tinc service,
when the computer returns from standby or hibernation. This problem is not
related to the recent Windows updates.
I am using

Critical problem with power management CentOS 7.2
Thinkpad T410 running CentOS 7 with the Mate desktop (Gnome 3 is too
demanding on video capabilities for this hardware)
Under CentOS 7.1 - the laptop would sleep when I closed the lid.
It no longer does. I can tell because the laptop remains warm when I
close the lid now, mail filters in Thunderbird run when the lid is
closed, and it doesn't need to re-establish wifi when opening.

openldap mmr + heartbeat hot standby
Hi List,
I've setup 2 openldap servers in n-way multimaster replication mode in a
test environment, both run centos 6.2,
this works well but now i'm trying to make these 2 servers failover
using heartbeat.
i've got no experience with heartbeat (or setting up clusters in
general) however from what i understand heartbeat starts/stops the
service if the server has the virtual IP

Standby Issue
Hi List,
I'm running Centos 5.2 on an Pentium III-1000
The box has been running for almost a year without any (hardware) issues.
SInce a few weeks the box goes into standby (power led flashes) without
any obvious reason (ie. i cannot find anything). This happens randomly
(box runs for 1 day and does this, next time it runs for 5 days and it
happens).
Normally when a box goes into standby,
