CentOS 6.5 driver for a Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 chipset
Hello CentOS admins.
I am an AIX admin bent on learning CentOS. Yesterday I downloaded
CentOS-6.5-x86_64-bin-DVD1.iso, burned a DVD and loaded it onto a Lenovo
IdeaPad N585 laptop. All went well, except for getting the integrated
wireless to work. Here is some info and what I tried so far.
# lspci|egrep -i wireless

support for Broadcom BCM4313
Hello,
The support for Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless is
native in the kernel since 2.6.37 (module brcm80211, renamed brcmsmac
since 2.6.39).
But is it backported to some kernel available for CentOS ?
Thanks,

Fwd: centos Wireless - Broadcom BCM4313
Dear All,
I'm trying to configure wireless card on a Dell Vostro 1540.
I had a look at this site : http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/Wireless/Broadcom?action=show
wireless card :# /sbin/lspci | grep Broadcom
12:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller (rev 01)
I decided to follow the ELrepo instructions suggested on the site :

BCM4313 on CentOS 6.3
Hi all,
I'm a complete newbie in Linux and am trying to get my Broadcom BCM4313
working in my Lenovo S10-3t netbook (CentOS 6.3 installed from LiveCD).
I followed the steps in the wiki, which lead me to ELRepo: wl-kmod. I
followed the instructions there until Step 2:
$ mkdir -p ~/rpmbuild/{BUILD,RPMS,SPECS,SOURCES,SRPMS}
$ echo -e "%_topdir $(echo $HOME)/rpmbuild\n%dist .el$(lsb_release

Upgrade to CentOS 6.5 -> issue with Broadcom Wifi
Hello there!
I was running CentOS 6.4 system on my Dell Latitude E6530 flawlessly,
until I upgraded to CentOS 6.5.
Now the wifi doesn't show up (it's a Broadcom Wifi BT4313, 14e4:4727), I
tried to follow the steps from http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/Wireless/Broadcom
but when attempting to compile the Broadcom driver module, the make
command fails in a way that is not described

install detecting disk as sdb not sda
I am trying to install 6.2 on a machine.
I am using PXE as I have done so a number of times.
My hard disk is being detected as sdb and not sda.
My kickstart config is wanting it at sda.
There are no other disks in the unit. It has and SD slot and an esata
although BIOS does not appear to have a disable for either of those devices.
Is there anyway to "force" the disk to sda ?
or find

Kernel Panic post kernel-2.6.32-504.23.4.el6.x86_64
Greetings,
Today, I decided to reboot one of my CentOS machines after it had been
running for 219 days.
In this time, I had done yum updates several times. When I tried rebooting
the machine, none of the kernels would work except for the oldest one.
Here are the installed kernels:
kernel-2.6.32-504.23.4.el6.x86_64
kernel-2.6.32-573.3.1.el6.x86_64

CentOS 7 on Dell Inspiron with ATI Radeon HD 6320 video card
Hi,
I'm currently installing CentOS 7 on a client's Dell Inspiron laptop.
Here's the video card:
# lspci | grep -i vga

Most of the time, I either have to deal with Intel or NVidia graphic
chipsets. As far as I understand, I can choose either the free 'radeon'
driver or the

Need Broadcom 4311 firmware for CentOS 5
Any hope of getting my laptop's Broadcom BCM94311 wireless running
on CentOS 5? I find lots of references to using fwcutter to get
the needed firmware from Windows drivers, but there's a Catch-22:
Version of fwcutter that generate files for the bcm43xx driver
in CentOS 5 don't recognize the md5sum of any currently
available Windows driver.
Newer versions of fwcutter

What RH-like on a Dell XPS 15 (9590)?
Hello there,
I've just got a Dell XPS 15 (9590) at work and need to set up a stable
GNU/Linux system on it. I thought of CentOS7, but.. obviously its
kernel can't run on this hardware.
What would you recommend? Waiting for CentOS8 is not an option unless
it's a question of few weeks. Are there respins of the CentOS7 DVDs w/
more top-recent kernels? I'm know of Fedora 26 or

[OT] linux on a PPC (mac mini)
Hello there,
complete off-topic, sorry about this, but my former idea was to install
a CentOS on an old mac mini (PPC!). Disappointed to see that PowerPC is
not a supported architecture and that non ARM or Intel architecture are
not managed by recent distros.. :-(.
Searching the web, I see very few possibilities to install a recent (I
need gnome2) GNU/Linux distro on such hardware. I gave Linux

Red Hat Developer Toolset 3 for CentOS6?
Hi all,
I could find the 1.1 and 2 repos gently provided by Tru Huynh, but quid
of a v3 of the toolset?
I've just found that Qt 5.4 requires what's shipped in this v3 (gcc
4.9.1, binutils 2.24) and would prefer installing those from a repo. If
not, the sources will rule.
Any hint?

Skype and Sound
I have installed Skype 4.0.0.8 on my new workstation running
CentOS-6.3 (kvm) and the Gnome DTM. This host has an Intel DG43GT
motherboard with on-board audio. The sound works when tested in the
sound preferences in the desk top.
Skype runs and the integrated usb video and microphone both work (I
infer this from the mic test in Skype options showing movement on the
intensity bar as I can hear
