[OFFTOPIC] integrated LSI 3008 :: number of hdd support
In my experience the mass market HBAs and RAID cards typically do support only 8 or 16 drives. For the internal variety in a standard rack-mount server you'll usually see either 2 or 4 iPass cables (each of which support 4 drives) connected to the backplane. The marketing material you've referenced has a white lie in it: supporting more than 16 drives on a single card is very likely only

JBOD recommendation for ZFS usage
Dear all Sorry if it''s kind of off-topic for the list but after talking to lots of vendors I''m running out of ideas... We are looking for JBOD systems which (1) hold 20+ 3.3" SATA drives (2) are rack mountable (3) have all the nive hot-swap stuff (4) allow 2 hosts to connect via SAS (4+ lines per host) and see all available drives as disks, no RAID volume. OFFTOPIC :: IB hardware choice
Hi! I would need an advice from those that use IB (as admins :) ) i have a choice between : 1. Mellanox InfiniHost? III Lx HCA card, single-port CX4, DDR, PCIe x8, mem-free, tall bracket, RoHS R5 2. QLogic Single Port 20 Gb InfiniBand to x16 PCI Express Adapter (Single Pack) aside the price is there anything else that could help me make a discrimination between this two? (these will be used in

offtopic - channel banks
hi, i have some newbie questions about channel banks. i have an adtran act-1241 sitting around. it accepts D4 modules, and it contains a number of e&m cards. first of all, how does this thing work? a t1 contains 24 channels, and i noticed that the channel bank has space for 24 cards. what do these cards do? what are their outputs? the ones that are in there have some outputs on the front

LSI 3GB HBA SAS Errors (and other misc)
During the diagnostics of my SAN failure last week we thought we had seen a backplane failure due to high error counts with ''lsiutil''. However, even with a new backplane and ruling out failed cards (MPXIO or singular) or bad cables I''m still seeing my error count with LSIUTIL increment. I''ve got no disks attached to the array right now so I''ve also

Offtopic: Which SAS / SATA HBA do you recommend?
Hi all, Sorry for the offtopic question. I hope though that others on this list or reading the archive find the answers useful too. It seems the Adaptec 1405 4port SAS HBA I bought only works with RHEL and SuSE through a closed source driver, and thus is quite useless :-( I was stupid enought to think "Works with RHEL and SuSE" meant "Certified for RHEL and SuSE, but driver in

Transparent bridging / smart rate limiting
I''ve decided to try to make a transparent bridge, that should drop packet''s based on some weird rules. I have googled around a bit and couldn''t find any information about what I would like to do. And therefore I now send a mail to this mailinglist in hope that someone can either help me, or point me in the right direction. What I want to do is the following: Make a

Is anyone using an inline IDS like hogwash or snort-inline to drop packets in a system running shoreline? I _think_ I see how to configure it, but I''d be really interested in finding a howto or something... Thanks! Mike- -- Mornings: Evolution in action. Offtopic: 3ware Raid Controllers
Hi! I know this is a little bit offtopic, but i couldn't think of any other place where i can get uninfluenced first hand information on these controllers :) I've read about and experienced data loss/system lockup with older 3ware controllers, but the 3ware Escalade 7xxx (i'm especially interested in the 7850) sounds too good to ignore it (8 channels, 8 drives, raid 0/1/5/10,

Disk failure chokes all the disks attached to the failing disk HBA
Dear All, It may be this not the correct mailing list, but I''m having a ZFS issue when a disk is failing. The system is a supermicro motherboard X8DTH-6F in a 4U chassis (SC847E1-R1400LPB) and an external SAS2 JBOD (SC847E16-RJBOD1). It makes a system with a total of 4 backplanes (2x SAS + 2x SAS2) each of them connected to a 4 different HBA (2x LSI 3081E-R (1068 chip) + 2x LSI
