Very new - beginners questions
Dear all,
I have 4 sites and want to determine how different they are from each other. For this I have decided to use R though it seems a bit daunting to learn.
I have read data in from a CSV the structure is :
Species1 Species2 Species3
Site1 4 4 7
Site2 3 1 0
Site3 0 99 6
Site4 75 3 33
There are many more species than shown above this is just an example. Here are the

Scripting a directory change on CentOS
This is probably a FAQ item but despite searching extensively with google
I am unable to find an answerer to this question. Perhaps I am using the
wrong words. In any case, at the risk of inducing some mirth at my
ignorance, how can one script a cd command so that that the user remains
in that directory when the script exits?
I have to work with a long path to a project working directory and I

Problem with yum
I am experiencing a problem with yum on one of my CentOS-5.5
systems. Specifically, on Friday past (July 16), I ran yum update
as root. Yum displayed all of the outdated packages and asked if I
wanted to proceed. An answered yes. This first package downloaded
was nss. At this point yum simply stopped processing or responding.
A ctrl-c at the yum session terminal window did not interrupt the

OpenSSH-5.3p1 selinux problem on CentOS-5.4.
Note: I am digest subscriber so if you could copy me directly on any
reply to the list I would appreciate it very much.
I sent this to the OpenSSH list (secureshell at securityfocus.com)
yesterday and received no response so I am asking here in hopes that
someone else has run across this problem on CentOS.
We have encountered a situation that requires sftp access to one of

OT: Setting a CentOS to gateway a private IP address
This is mildly off topic since it has more to do with TCP/IP networking
than with CentOS per se. However, at the risk of ruffling a few feathers
I would like some advice on how to resolve the following routing problem:
Given:
dual homed host running CentOS-5.2 with
eth0 = 2xx.yyy.zzz.23
eth1 = 192.168.219.1
and a Cisco gateway at 2xx.1xx.y7y.1 with the following networks:

Cookbook receipe for SCSI tape install requested.
I need to install an HP Surestore dlt on a Centos 4 machine and I
am at a loss as to how to proceed. Can someone either provide or
point me to an online reference on how to proceed to add and
configure a SCSI adapter and tape drive. I have read, but not
really understood, the man page entry for st. Does kudzu handle
this?

Can one construct an IPTables rule to block on NS records?
This is the same origin that I reported on earlier. Apparently asking
for an explanation of why they were probing our sites only encouraged
them to make additional attempts.

CentOS-5 - Suffering from LDAP experimentation
I was playing aeound with the GUI authentication configuration and was
called away from my desk after I had configured the LDAP DC entries but
before I had tried to start the ldap server or do much of anything else.
When I returned the terminal session was screen-saver locked and entering
my user password did not make it respond. I kept getting a time-out error.

I wish answered at the moment is simple:

Thank you for the comments on conditional replacements. I now have
another oddity to deal with.
When adding products to the session cart I am not able to have the

another item is added to the cart. I copied the code from the book
as carefully as I could and could find no error but to be sure I
