Both Internet providers feed into the same network, one at 192.168.0.1 and the other at 192.168.0.254. We can permanently set hostname using hostnamectl set-hostname. How can we permanently set *domain name* in CentOS 7? I found an article <http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/239920/how-to-set-the-fully-qualified-hostname-on-centos-7-0> that recommended setting FQDN using hostnamectl. Is that the right way to set hostname and domainname at the same time using *hostnamectl set-hostname*

I gather that ifconfig is a way of setting the netmask in the current shell instead of a persistent value.? I say this because I am running it and see it for my specific network interface, directly after running it. However if I restart the network service the netmask is reverted to the previous value. What is the correct way to set the new netmask for the network interface to make it persistent.

Hai Viktor,   Yes, i did keep that in mind that it was an upgrade, that exact why im responding. ;-)   If in the base  /etc/hostname, /etc/nsswitch.conf and /etc/resolv.conf or systemd  cointains wrong settings, you might inherit these. So it might be that a previous samba was accepting these settings, but a latest samba not. Or a previous systemd version accepted these and a newer not..
