dd iso to flash drive
Booting from the USB requires that there is a syslinux directory to boot
off of. In EL6, there is only isolinux, which is what booting from a DVD
uses. You should be able to copy isolinux to syslinux, rename the files
from s/iso/sys/ and then update syslinux.cfg to point to the USB drive
to boot from. Here's an example from my setup:

Installing 6.8 from DVD1.iso, changes
Downloaded 6.8 DVD1.iso, dd to stick. Went through same selections
I have gone through since 6.2, only this time it got to the end and
stated it couldn't find rear, which is under "backup client".
OK, try it again without rear. This time it's yum-plugin-ovl from base
(?). Then chrony, also in base (?). Then flightrecorder, libreswan,

Bourne shell deprecated?
Hello List,
Today someone in a meeting claimed the Bourne shell is deprecated, one
of the reasons being it supposedly has security issues. Well that's all
news to me, and I cannot find anything online to corroborate the claim.
Is this true, is it a bash vs. Bourne FUD, or something else?
Thanks,
Jack

Kickstart and CentOS 6...
Hey,
I am trying to upgrade my kickstart usb key to 6.0 and I ran into a few issues.
I boot with:
? append initrd=initrd.img ks=hd:sdb2:/ks.cfg repo=hd:sdb2:/centos
and in the ks.cfg I have:
? harddrive --partition=sdb2 --dir=/centos
and on sdb2 I have:
? sdb2:/centos/CentOS-6.0-x86_64-bin-DVD1.iso
? sdb2:/centos/CentOS-6.0-x86_64-bin-DVD2.iso
It fails from the beginning unless I add /images

iso burn
I downloaded the CentOS-6.5-x86_64-bin-DVD1.iso
and CentOS-6.5-x86_64-bin-DVD12.iso
and tried to burn them to a DVD but both Windows 7 and IOS
( MacBook Pro ) do not recognize these as valid isos.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi all,
Not sure if this is on topic or not.
I'm trying to query an SNMP value from centos 6 and I get a bad

trouble installing centos 6.8
Dear all,
I'm having trouble installing Centos 6.8, in a VM using VirtualBox, and
hoping that someone on this distribution can help.
I'm running VirtualBox Version 5.1.4 r110228 (Qt5.5.1).
I downloaded .iso files for Centos 6.8:
- CentOS-6.8-x86_64-bin-DVD1.iso
- CentOS-6.8-x86_64-bin-DVD2.iso
I proceeded to set up a new VM, selecting Linux / RedHat 64 bit. I
selected the DVD1 iso

virt-install kickstart local file
Hi Everybody:
I am trying to get virt-install to work with a kickstart file that is on
the local file system.
I tried using the --initrd-inject="/tmp"
--extra-args="ks=file:/myks.cfg" but I got this error message:
ERROR --extra-args only work if specified with --location.
Here is the basic command:
virt-install \

Latest 9-Stream ISO fails to boot after install
Hello,
I was performing a test install of CentOS Stream 9 using the latest[1]
available dvd iso from the mirror[2].
I manually select "minimal install" from the selectable packages. The install
seems to go smoothly. Upon reboot I am greeted with:

Further examination of the switch-root service shows the following:

Will syslinux UEFI boot the RHEL7.0 kernel (3.10.0-123.el7.x86_64) ?
All,
Is syslinux 6.03 able to UEFI boot the RHEL7.0 Linux kernel? I'm trying &
failing
to do this.
I haven't UEFI-booted RHEL7.0 kernel via syslinux before. (But I have UEFI
pxelinux
booted Fedora 20, which is approximately RHEL7.0.)
I remember HPA mentioned that older Linux kernels required "UEFI boot
assist",
something that GRUB2 offers but syslinux does not.
