built kernel-3.10.0-229.7.2.el7 OK but install fails
Thanks! Up on kernel 3.10.0-229.7.2.el7.centos. Page http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Custom_Kernel specifically states using rpm and not yum for the new kernel install, so perhaps needs that slight revision for 7......Nick G On Thu, Jul 9, 2015 at 5:05 PM, Nicholas Geovanis <nickgeovanis at gmail.com> wrote: > Hi all - > First the boilerplate: > On centos-release.x86_64

Replacing kernel-headers with custom compiled version (from kernel.org) - safe?
Hello CentOS users, Currently I have compiled kernel version 4.19.37, which the source is from kernel.org. I compiled the kernel by following steps: - get the kernel tarball and unpack it - install prerequisties as described in https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Custom_Kernel (in addition bc and openssl-devel) - copy the kernel configuration: $ cp /boot/config-3.10.0-957.21.3.el7.x86_64

hostname service?
On CentOS 7, I find in /var/log/messages several times daily messages "localhost systemd: Started Hostname Service.". However I can't seem to find such a service using the systemctl command. What is the "Hostname Service", what does it do and why is it being restarted frequently? Many thanks....Nick

Need firewalld clue
I don't really understand the intent behind firewalld. The RHEL7 Security Guide states "A graphical configuration tool, *firewall-config*, is used to configure firewalld, which in turn uses *iptables tool* to communicate with *Netfilter* in the kernel which implements packet filtering". So is the goal for firewalld to implement a GUI for iptables? What is the "value added"

No announcement for kernel 3.10.0-1062.12.1.el7
On our CentOS 7 servers I see there is a new kernel available when doing yum update: kernel 3.10.0-1062.12.1.el7 kernel-devel 3.10.0-1062.12.1.el7 However I am not able to find any announcement at redhat.com for this kernel. The only announcement I find is this from CentOS: https://www.mail-archive.com/centos-announce at centos.org/msg11573.html However that CentOS announcement links to

Wifi Driver Broadcom BCM4322 not working with Centos 7.2
Hi, I've been using in the past the broadcom wifi card BCM4322 with Centos 7.1 one in the past, with kernel 3.10.0-229.7.2.el7 and driver 6_30_223_248 and it worked well. Now I updated Centos to 7.2 and the driver is not compiling any more under kernel 3.10.0-327.3.1.el7. Neither driver 6_30_223_238 nor 6_30_223_271. Does any body experienced the same issues? Is kernel-3.10.0-693.11.6.el7 tested with old hardware?
Today we tried to update machines w/ Core2 Duo E6750 from 3.10.0-693.11.1.el7.centos.plus to 3.10.0-693.11.6.el7.centos.plus and the machines did not boot due to a kernel panic. Before we dig any further I wanted to know if the 11.6 kernel has been tested on old hardware, too, or if the problem is well known but not documented (yet). Thank you in advance! How to get unrelease kernel, e.g. 3.10.0-341.el7
Hi, I cloned https://git.centos.org/r/rpms/kernel.git and found that it only contains kernel version that CentOS released. So how do I get the kernel version that CentOS not release officialy, e.g. 3.10.0-341.el7 and 3.10.0-383.el7 (some kernel version I found in kernel.spec's changelog)? Thanks.

Hi Phil, Not sure if you've had time to look at this? As mentioned middleware, like docker-ce, is preventing us from moving to el8.
