livecd vs nfsroot vs what?
Hi,
I'm trying to deploy some non-linux OS via pxe and I was thinking to just launch CentOS in RAM and then run dd or qemu-img or something like this in order to complete the other OS install via template imaging.
My first idea was to build a custom CentOS livecd and use that in combination with pxe kernel parameters, but perhaps there's a better way to do this.
Ideas?
Thanks,
Lucian

Looking for ways to save space - AKA how to boot multiple machines from the same root
I have several machines, same hardware and config, but one tiny little
change.. the hostname. Each one of these diskless machines needs its own
hostname.
Presently my pxelinux.cfg is setup like:
prompt 1
default Gentoo
timeout 10
label Gentoo
kernel boot/kernel-3.16.5-gentoo
APPEND root=/dev/nfs rw ip=dhcp
nfsroot=192.168.1.10:/RAID/diskless/XXXXX-mythtv-0.27-fixes,tcp,rsize=131072

Looking for ways to save space - AKA how to boot multiple machines from the same root
Because everything I searched on for a PXELinux mailing list pointed me to here. And because PXELinux is a derivative of SYSLinux. If there is a better mailing list for my questions, please let me know.
Since you say its possible, care to enlighten me on how to do so?

NFSroot is acting strange in CentOS5
Hello all,
I have observed a problem with a diskless PXE client I am attempting
to configure. PXE/NFS/DHCP/TFTPd server is running CentOS5.1 and the
Diskless workstation's root and kernel was extracted from a CentOS5.1
(custom kernel due to setting to enable Root File System support).
Problem: When the diskless client boots and logs in I notice that my
root user is being squashed, even if I

Problem with PXEBOOT of diskless client -- fails to mount RAMDISK
I am having a problem with setting up diskless clients under CentOS 5.2.
I have everything working under CentOS 4.7. This is an adaptation of
the (somewhat old) Diskless Linux with PXE HOWTO by Gerd v. Egidy,
originally at the URL
http://www.intra2net.com/opensource/diskless-howto/, which is now defunt
(there is a mirror of it at

odd inconsistency with nfs
I'm having an interesting/odd problem with nfs (I think). We recently
(Monday/Tuesday) upgraded our file server from an ancient redhat 7.3
system to a shiny new centos 6.4 system. We don't see any issues between
the other centos boxes, but things get a bit weird when we start
mounting on the old solaris clients.
The initial symptom was that the 'tab complete' wasn't

Problems with Windows on KVM machine
Hello. We've started a virtualisation project and got stuck in one moment.
Currently we are using the following:
Intel 2312WPQJR as a node
Intel R2312GL4GS as a storage with Intel Infiniband 2 ports controller
Infiniband Mellanox SwitchX IS5023 for commutation.
The nodes run CentOS 6.5 with built-in Infiniband package (Linux v0002
2.6.32-431.el6.x86_64), the storage - CentOS 6.4 also built-in

copying large files over NFS locks up machine on -testing from Thursday
I''ve locked up my dom0 a couple of times this morning copying a 3GB
file from local disk to an NFS mount(neither xend nor guests running).
I don''t encounter this problem on the stock CentOS 4 kernel. The
machine is a PowerEdge 2850 with 2 e1000 cards - the one in use is
connected to a PowerConnect 2216 10/100 switch and has negotiated
100Mbit. I''ll check if the stock

nfsvers and nfs-utils-1.3.0-0.48.el7
We encountered a weird problem today, and I thought some of you might
like to hear the solution.
The underlying change was listed in the 7.4 changelog, so it's not a
bug, but it may drive you buggy.
The majority of our HPC cluster nodes run CentOS 7, though the exact
patch levels vary from node to node. None is older than 7.3, but a few
newer nodes were kickstarted right to 7.4.

Thank you Marcelo for replying,
The directory /etc/lvm/cache/ is empty.
And, yes, the UUID matches:
# blkid
/dev/vda1: UUID="297e2939-d6f5-431a-9813-9848368ee306" TYPE="xfs"

NFS problems with CentOS 4.5
Our large and complex build system is having very sporadic failurs
as we try to update to CentOS 4.5. This takes the form of files that
exist - and have existed for some time - not being found:
file.whatever: No such file: No such file or directory
This happens both with source files, .o's - meaning that the
errors come from both the compiler and linker.
The build storage is on NFS and the

We have a 2-node Oracle RAC that keeps getting the following error:
kernel: nfs: RPC call returned error 88
The storage being mounted is netapp. We don't see any errors/issues on the
storage itself or the switches this client is connecting thru. The NFS
network is a 2-interface ( 2 x 1Gb UTP) bond which shows no errors of any
kind.
We are mounting with the following mount options:
