Skype and Sound
I have installed Skype 4.0.0.8 on my new workstation running CentOS-6.3 (kvm) and the Gnome DTM. This host has an Intel DG43GT motherboard with on-board audio. The sound works when tested in the sound preferences in the desk top. Skype runs and the integrated usb video and microphone both work (I infer this from the mic test in Skype options showing movement on the intensity bar as I can hear

Q. LUKS or ecryptfs-utils ?
I am now investigating encrypting our IMAP user spool files. Does anyone have experience with handling encrypted data stores using either or both of the subject methods and would care tio share their observations? Which is the preferred method (I know: it depends, but on what?)? What administrative pain does each cause? Our IMAP host is a KVM guest so spinning up a duplicate and simply

KVM as a desktop
I am nearing the end of a project that moved our disparate services and hosts onto kvm virtualized servers. What I am now contemplating is setting up my desktop as a virtual host and using one of the guests as my primary workstation. However, I am not sure how this would work in practice. I am accustomed to working with virtual instances via ssh (a terminal window) and with my desktop system in

editing bind (DNS) configuration under CentOS 6
Hello listmates, It appears that system-config-bind has been phased out. Whatever the reasoning was behind that decision - what are we expected to do now? Edit it manually? That is doable, of course, but kind of cumbersome. Does anybody know if there is a tool we are expected to use for that purpose? Thanks. Boris.

CentOS6 - Stop NUX Skype auto-start with gnome desktop
How does one configure Skype/Gnome such that one can have Skype installed but not auto-start when the Gnome desktop opens? I have looked in the 'System/Preferences/Startup Applications' menu but Skype is not listed there. There are no options in the Application itself that allow this setting either. If there no other way then I will remove the application package and re-install when I

Initial run of RSpec 1.0.8 on MS-WinXPproSP2
Rails 1.2.5 Ruby 1.8.6 Rake 0.7.3 RSpec 1.0.8 PostgreSQL 8.2.5 I am experiencing a problem with the "rake spec spec" task on an initial trial of rspec. After creating the rails app I installed rspec and rspec_on_rails in the vendor\plugins subdirectory from svn. I then used ruby script\generate rspec_model product. I next manually created the database instances depot_development and

CentOS-6.5 (FreePBX-2.6) Asterisk-11.14.2 (FreePBX) snom870-SIP 8.7.3.25.5 I am having a very difficult time attempting to get TLS and SRTP working with Asterisk and anything else. Shutdown KVM guest not working
I am in the middle of a rather confusing situation. At the moment I am unable to shutdown a KVM guest machine. Nor am I presently able to open a virt-manager session on the host. I am not exactly sure what has happened but the problem with the vm guest is that issuing a "virsh shutdown 1" from the root console has no effect. # virsh list Id Name State

Problem with SSHD update.
This morning I applied the 13 or so new updates to my servers. On one of them the ssh service and clients stopped working immediately after the update. I restarted the server in anticipation that there might be some instability introduced by updating on a system with active ssh connections. However, this has not cleared the problem. The packages in question are: openssh.i386
