why does centos 7 want to install mariadb instead of mysql ?
Hey all, I just got around to trying out CentOS 7. And for some reason when I attempt to install mysql-server, instead I'm offered mariadb? I'm using epel and remi as my repos. [root at web1:/etc/yum.repos.d] #cat /etc/redhat-release Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 7.0 (Maipo) [root at web1:/etc/yum.repos.d] #yum repolist Loaded plugins: amazon-id, rhui-lb repo id

mysql replication - problems
Hey everybody, I'm trying to get mysql master/slave replication to work under SSL. I've created the certs for both the slave and the master. I've configured the master and slave my.cnf. And it does appear that replication is actually working. Master is actually MariaDB (version 5.5.41-MariaDB-log, and the slave is MySQL (version 5.5.41-log). But there are two issues I'd like to

MariaDB [(none)]> use mysql Reading table information for completion of table and column names You can turn off this feature to get a quicker startup with -A Database changed Then if I

mairadb doesn't prompt for user/pass
Hello, I discovered today that CentOS 7 has replaced MySQL with MariaDB. Which is fine, it's seems really similar. And I was already aware that it was written by the original team that wrote mysql. It's cool that the mysql command still gets you in! This is the version I have: [root at web1:~] #mysql --version mysql Ver 15.1 Distrib 5.5.37-MariaDB, for Linux (x86_64) using readline

But this list tends to be rather helpful for general problems that are less specific to centos. Sometimes. :) Really seems to depend... Incidentally I am using centos on all hosts: #cat /etc/redhat-release CentOS Linux release 7.0.1406 (Core) OK

wordpess can't connect to DB but mediawiki can
Hey guys, I'm running both a wordpress site as well as a mediawiki off of the same web servers. The mediawiki site works great! The wordpress site, meh. Not so much. I keep getting the common database connection error: Error establishing a database connection And as far as I can tell the settings between the mediawiki site and the wordpress site are nearly identical. Here's the media

SELinux permissions for apache
Hey all, I have a simple php app working that writes some info to a text file. The app will only work correctly if SELinux is disabled. If it's enabled and try to use the app, it fails. It seems that SELinux is denying the app ability to write to the text file. So I tried running the following command: chcon -R -t httpd_sys_content_t /var/www And tried veriying the command with the

Instead of logging me in and just complaining that it couldn't create the home directory, it still complains about not creating the home directory, but now it doesn't let me in: #ssh

can't ssh into C7 host
hey guys, Yesterday I had no trouble loggging into this database host. But today for some reason I can't log in using my RSA key and password authentication doesn't work either. I am able to log onto the host via console. And I was able to grab the ssh config file. Here it is: [root at db1 ~]# grep -v '#' /etc/ssh/sshd_config |sed '/^\s*$/d' HostKey

disable ZTS in php
Hey guys, I'm trying to disable ZTS in php, because an application we need (AppDynamics) is not compatible with it. So I tried compiling php with the following flags: php -i | grep configure Configure Command => './configure' '--with-apxs2=/opt/apache2/bin/apxs' '--with-zlib=/usr' '--prefix=/opt/php-5.6.8' '--with-libdir=lib64'
