CentOS 6 yum Groupinstall vs Manual install
Gentlemen, I have a question regarding yum groupinstall vs just using yum install. I have been reading tutorials online (for example how to run a Centos LAMP). Most of the tutorials have examples to install httpd, mysql, etc using yum install httpd.... The reason for this e-mail is that I noticed in yum grouplist that there is an option to install Web Server, MySQL database server, etc.

My initial Centos install was the "minimum". From there I used yum grouplist and yum installgroup. However, one of the members helped me with using yum to install php-mysql and I just found

adding x to an existing system
Hello, I've got a centos5 box that originally did not have x on it as it was headless. It's purpose has now changed and x is now needed. I'd like to install it and gnome preferably without having to reinstall the os to get the ease of install, it just works when anaconda does it, is this doable? Thanks. Dave.

Install minimal system. 2. yum groupinstall "X Window System" 3. yum install gdm gnome-classic-session gnome-terminal liberation-fonts 4. Install applications as needed. This morning, the package group "X Window System" seems to have disappeared. This is embarrassing. What

yum groupinstall "MySQL Database"
Hi all, I have a question related to yum groupinstall. I just tried a: yum groupinstall "MySQL Database" I expected that I would end up with a MySQL Database server, but it installed a bunch of .rpms *except* mysql-server. installing kde using up2date
Hi, I have already installed 4.2 on my laptop, I only chose GNOME at install time. I now need to use up2date to install kde (I wish to install twinkle softphone). What is the correct way to do that. I did: up2date kde* up2date -u kde* up2date -i kde* It printed a listing of the packages but did not install them. Thanks, Jerry
