Prevent network setup from changing the hostname
Make it a system connection instead of a user connection. Or give the host a static name on install and don't allow dhcp to override it. Inheriting Xauthority
On some of my machines, when I run "su -" in a terminal to get a root shell, an XAUTHORITY file is automatically generated to give display access to GUI programs spawned by that shell, i.e., # set | grep XAUTH XAUTHORITY=/root/.xauthayZmdH That file contains a copy of the MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE from my original X session. On other machines with the same installed OS (CentOS

URGENT: libdvdcss install hosed /var
I am running CentOS 5/2 (latest updates) with the GNOME DE on a 32-bit machine (at work). I have k3b installed, and I was trying to copy a DVD earlier this morning, but k3b said it couldn't read encrypted DVDs. So, I installed libdvdcss from rpmforge and restarted k3b. It hung the system. I rebooted, and / had been damaged. After running e2fsck from the repair prompt, I rebooted and a

Running VirtualBox headless
Hello everyone, I'm trying to run a VirtualBox-based VM in headless mode, but apparently running out of luck. So far: - Fedora 14 host - libvirt 0.9.8 manually built from libvirt-0.9.8-1.fc14.src.rpm (later tested with 0.10.0 built from libvirt-0.10.0-1.fc17.src.rpm to the same effect) - I have a VBox 4.1.20 installed with extension pack - a virtual Windows XP guest - can start this machine

SELinux and rsh+xauth
Hello, I have a strange (for me) problem with these two machines : - Client, a CentOS-5.7 workstation ; - Server, a CentOS-6.2 headless, up-to-date server. From Client, I want to use xauth on Server with the help of rsh (yes, I know, ssh and all this sort of things... another time.) When SELinux is in permissive mode on Server, all these commands perform as expected : rsh Server

virt-viewer X forwarding through ssh broken since FC17 upgrade?
Ever since I upgraded my laptop from FC15 to FC17, I've been getting this message when I ssh to some RHEL6 hosts inside Red Hat. In particular, I'm trying to do this: virt-viewer --connect \ qemu+ssh://kvm11.devlab.phx1.redhat.com/system \ bork-s01.candlepin.dev.devlab.phx1.redhat.com This is the message I get: X11 forwarding request failed on channel 0 A viewer window pops
