netbook screen suddenly goes black
Hi all! I'm running an up to date Centos-7 on my Acer Aspire One netbook. have been for, well, ever since C7 was released. Just had an event today that also happened 2 or 3 times with earlier systems installed, but I never pursued it. What happens is that suddenly while working away on the desktop the display suddenly goes black... not black as in turned off, I can see that the backlight is

HP Mini 1010NR
Very rarely is a netbook officially announced any more, as it is more often revealed by another means. The upcoming HP Mini 210 netbook (http://www.laptopspark.com/products/HP-EliteBook-8540w-XT904UTABA-Notebook-Intel-Core-i7-640M280GHz-156-4GB-Memory-DDR3-1333-320GB-HDD-7200rpm-DVD-Super-Multi-NVIDIA-Quadro-FX-880M-laptop-1129.html) has been reveled by two sources, an Internet retailer which

C6 or C7 for an old netbook
I've got an old HP Netbook, which is just fine for taking with when I'm travelling, to check email and news. I have a very old Ubuntu netbook-remix on it, and it really, *really* needs to be updated to something current. I, of course, would prefer CentOS.... The question is: I see that *if* the specs I just looked up (I'm at work, not home, where I could just turn it on, but they

Problems with Acer netbook freezing on syslinux bootup
Hi! I'm not a programmer, so I will try and be as clear as I can. I currently have an Acer Aspire One which has issues with syslinux 4.06 When I try and make a usb bootable install key using common automated programs under windows (Universal USB installer from Pendrivelinux, LiLi and unetbootin), they all fail when booted on the netbook. Now, I know it's an issue with syslinux for many

5.3 on an EeePC??
I have an ASUS EeePC 701 (with 2GB of RAM and an 8 GB card), on which I've installed CentOS on the hard-drive-plus-card. But it can't even use my eth0. Some one on a local LUG, where I had mentioned that other OSs did fine with all the same exact hardware, suggested that CentOS, being designed for stability rather than the bleeding edge, likely lacks drivers; so I need to get

modestly priced laptop for C7
I'm looking to replace my (old, creaky) netbook (Acer Aspire One D255e, a screaming dual core 1.6 GHz Atom, and a whole 2 gigs of RAM) with something faster but not too large. Sometimes (usually) the netbook is painfully slow. Something like a hi-res 14 (or 15) inch screen (full HD), minimum of 4 gigs RAM, HD of a half terabyte or bigger. I'd like to not have to go over 600-700 dollars,

R on netbooks et al?
Dear useRs, With the rise of netbooks and 'lifestyle laptops" I am tempted to get one of these to mainly run R on it. Processor power and hard disk space seem to be ok. What I wonder is the handling and feel with respect to R. Has anyone here installed or is running R on one of these, and if so, what is your experience? Would it be more of a nice looking gadget than a feasable platform

running a cheap Acer Aspire one 722, 2gb ram, dual core 1ghz, swapped the HDD for a SSD. it's running fedora 21 LXDE. it's fast, powerful enough for working on the move and boots / shuts down in about 10 seconds flat. I also had Centos7 on here before but Fedora has better support for multimedia in my opinion. ran into one issue about waking the netbook after sleeping. ended up

Centos 5.4 on Acer Aspire One
I currently have my Acer Aspire One netbook set up with Fedora 11. I would like to change it over to Centos 5.4 if I can. I downloaded the Centos 5.4 i386 livecd image and made a bootable USB flash drive out of it. Unfortunately, when I boot off of that flash drive, Grub (I guess) immediately turns the screen entirely white. If I hit a key I can faintly see the outline of "Press tab to

Light-weight window manager, recommendations
So, I've mentioned that I've got an original netbook, circa 2009, and I'm going to put CentOS on it. 32 bit. Not huge disk, old Atom processor, not tons of memory. Any recommendations for a light-weight window manager? Before I went to KDE, I used fvwm2, and all I'm going to do is use it to read webmail and browse, read news, etc, so I don't need a lot. mark

Ultrabook for CentOS?
Hello, I need to buy an ultrabook. Any recommendations for something that would work out of the box more or less? I do not want a Chromebook (or anything ARM) or one of these new "touch" laptops, in fact I'm after a nice matte screen. Budget is modest-ish (?500/$800) so dont go crazy. :) Thanks! -- Sent from the Delta quadrant using Borg technology! Nux! www.nux.ro

linpus linux lite
I just got a netbook. An Acer aspire one and I am completely new to linux. I have managed to install wine and I am trying to run spotify. It says there is a problem with audio drivers and can't produce a sound. Can anyone help? And keep it simple. I am very new to all this. Does anyone know if there is going to be a linux version of spotify? I am beginning to think that this is my only
