The future of centos
100% with Digimer here. I think there are no conspiracy theories. IMO RedHat does not want nor does it afford to mess up CentOS. All this energy should be put into contributing towards to the project, testing, helping out community. Lucian -- Sent from the Delta quadrant using Borg technology! I can't find any evidence it was ever in RHEL or CentOS. It looks like it's in the Nux Desktop repo and the Repoforge repo for EL5 and 6 and Nux for EL7. > 6) While I do really appreciate CLI

video problem since 2015-04-01 update
Is there a way in Centos 7 to boot into an alternate video setup? Some distributions have an option to boot into something called VESA (or something similar). Something that might not have the fanciest features, but more likely to at least just work. Yes, that is very much like the problem I encountered, but in my case it did not need multiple monitors to happen, just one. The config file suggested did seem to fix the problem, at least serving as a (hopefully) temporary workaround. Johnny, thanks for the pointer. And thanks to all who replied. P.S. - the workaround seems to work with both the latest "standard" Centos 7 kernel

Okay, thanks to all who took the time to reply. What a shame; I hadn't planned on spending Easter weekend learning to do kernel upgrades, but . . . here it goes. grsync for centos 7
Hello. I think it is just too easy to make mistakes with rsync. And getting it "almost correct" can really get you hurt. So I would like to learn with Grsync. But, Grsync does not seem to be in the centos 7 or EPEL 7 repositories (although it may have been around as late as centos 6). Is it now in any "reputable" repositories? If not, has anyone installed it from source

[OT] Using rsync to backup / restore - when to use (or not use) the -H option switch?
Hello. After some reading, including the rsync man page, I am still not clear on this: When using rsync to backup and restore, when should and when should one *not* include hard links (by using the -H option switch)? A simple example case would be backups for one or just a few light-duty local workstations. Is there a simple, clear rule about that, or is it too complicated for that?

Can anyone compile mtr source RPM on CentOS 6.7?
Hi all, I was trying to rebuild mtr (http://vault.centos.org/6.7/os/Source/SPackages/mtr-0.75-5.el6.src.rpm) and I keep getting: ==== Executing(%install): /bin/sh -e /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.gu9Ds0 + umask 022 + cd /root/rpmbuild/BUILD + '[' /root/rpmbuild/BUILDROOT/mtr-0.75-5.el6.x86_64 '!=' / ']' + rm -rf /root/rpmbuild/BUILDROOT/mtr-0.75-5.el6.x86_64 ++ dirname

Well, it could be the same, but the bug report does seem to refer to the bug being in kernel series 3.18. I am just using whatever 3.10 series kernel comes standard with Centos 7.x. I don't know anything about bug reports, and I an not familiar with swapping out kernels in Centos. BTW, is El Repo another name for the EPEL repository? Installing HomeBank on CentOS 7.1
Just a suggestion: Have you tried Gnucash? It is in the EPEL repository, works fine in Centos 7, and is really well done. P.S. - I can not comment on HomeBank, as I haven't used it. virt-manager like tool for Android
Hi all, I use virt-manager as a way to give customers direct access to their (virtual) servers. This is important for things like OS installs or when do admin work where the network is down. This means I have to install a little linux machine though as none of my clients are linux shops. So I got to wondering; If I understand, virt-manager is more or less a hypervisor-aware VNC client,

high availability ideas
Hi, I'm looking for some recommendations. I need to have some sort of high availability for a set of php & mysql web sites, they must be hosted on 2 servers, in separate data centres and obviously on differrent IPs. I can't use a load balancer because that will introduce a single point of failure making the "distributed setup" useless. I was thinking some sort of
