C7 Mate - files suddenly moved back onto desktop
My wife sometimes puts files on her desktop to work with them, then cut-and-pastes the file to put it into a folder when she's done. This morning she has seven files on her desktop that she has worked on over the course of the past week. They have suddenly, overnight, moved out of the folders that she had put them into and moved onto her desktop! They are no longer in the folders that she

CentOS 7 + MATE : Folder contents not refreshed in file manager
Hi, I just migrated my workstation running CentOS 7 from KDE to MATE. It looks like I'm having the same problem with the Caja file manager than with Dolphin. Folder contents don't get refreshed automatically, and I have to hit F5. For example, when I download a file (say, a compressed archive) from the Internet, I have to hit F5 to see the file in Caja. And when I extract the archive, I

C6 or C7 for an old netbook
I've got an old HP Netbook, which is just fine for taking with when I'm travelling, to check email and news. I have a very old Ubuntu netbook-remix on it, and it really, *really* needs to be updated to something current. I, of course, would prefer CentOS.... The question is: I see that *if* the specs I just looked up (I'm at work, not home, where I could just turn it on, but they

MATE question
I know I should go to EPEL with this, but thought to ask here in case anyone else uses Mate and may know more about it than I do. I had installed the MATE 1.12 packages from epel testing a few days ago, but since that did not include some of the devel packages, I just removed it and reinstalled all the MATE 1.10 packages from epel-7. they all installed fine, but now my desktop has a background,

new user introduction, and a few questions
hi Ok, I've now got more info. Doing smbclient -L blackfang returns the following error. unknown name switch type dns. session setup failed. NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE. This is frustrating. Isn't this supposed to work regardless of whether I have an account on the machine I'm trying to connect to? Hear's what I'm trying to do. I'm basically trying to configure samba, however I

Wine 1.4 removes gnome-common & mate-common (link)
Hello all. Recently upgraded to Mint 13 MATE and have been following this forum post:http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=102684&p=585069&hilit=wine+mint+13+mate#p585069 Installing wine 1.4 appears to remove mate-common and gnome-common and a few other packages, playonlinux also removes the same. I don't know what damage this does but vincent on the Mint forums

CentOS 7 remove items on screen
How can I remove the four items on screen? Applications, Places home trash from the command line? I'd prefer to remove the top panel and bottom panel all together if possible, but they can stay - I just don't want anything showing on the screen. searched all around for kiosk mode gnome3 etc.. not finding anything good for CentOS7. Was able to do this in CentOS 6 can't believe they

Can't access Samba shares from Nautilus
Hi, I'm currently experimenting with Samba on a few sandbox machines. On the server side, I have setup CentOS 7 with a basic Samba setup and two shares, one public, the other password-protected. I have two Windows 7 boxes in my network, and I can access the shares perfectly, log in to the password-protected share, read and write files, so this seems to work OK. On my main Linux workstation

Alternative GUI
Hey All, I'm considering moving from CentOS 6 to CentOS 7. I'm not interested in dealing with Gnome 3. I've heard good things about Mate, a fork of Gnome 2. it appears that Mate is available in the EPEL repository associated with CentOS 7. Have any of you tried Mate on CentOS 7? In your experienced opinion what would I be giving up by abandoning Gnome 3 and installing Mate
