samba4wins nbd_server implementation & configuration
Hi, Confused and bewildered as usual, so ask the guys who know. samba4wins is now implemented and part of the samba4 package? Is there a configuration guide? I guess nbd_server needs to be part of the equation so could you point to some resources on setup as I don't think I have noticed anything in the wiki? Probably just me :) Many Thanks Stuart

An odd X question
I've got a headless server running CentOS 7. I've got a user who wants to run some graphical software on it, and view using x forwarding. What I don't have clear is how to set this up. I've just installed xorg-x11-server-[Xorg, common]. I assume I need to run X, but I don't see running this in runlevel 5. Thoughts? mark "and why is it called xorg-x11-server, when in

Old Asterisk Release wanting to upgrade ...
Hello, I have been running Asterisk for the past 5+ years on RedHat and I never upgraded it before. All my Asterisk software is of the following release: 1) Asterisk 1.4.21.2 2) Libpri-1.4.4 3) Zaptel-1.4.11 I would like to move the OS to CentOS and then I thought I can at the same time ponder about upgrading Asterisk releases. However, I am bewildered by the myriad of different releases like 1.6,

Non-gnome desktops on CentOS-7
Is there a writeup somewhere detailing how one installs a non-gnome desktop? I have installed both KDE and Mate and both fail with the same error. (EE) no screens found. I am a bit bewildered that neither the official KDE from centos nor the semi-official mate from epel pull in as part of their install the Xserver. I am also bothered by the fact that installing a desktop other than gnome 3

"Missing value representation in Excel before extraction to R with RODBC"
Dear list, How should missing values be expressed in Excel before extraction to R via RODBC. I'm bewildered. Sometimes the representation with NA in Excel appears to work and shows up in R as <NA> but sometimes the use of NA in Excel changes the whole vector to NA's. Blank or nothing or NA as representation for missing values in Excel with dateformat gives NA's of the whole

Tick mark puzzle.
I am bewildered by the behaviour of tickmarks as demonstrated by the following code. (What I'm trying to do is draw a single tick mark extending from the axis all the way down to the tick label, which is two lines from the axis to make sure it doesn't overlap with the ``ordinary'' tick labels.) # Try 1: # Gap between tickmark and label. plot(1:10) axis(side = 1, at = 2.35,

bind-chroot rpm only builds chroot tree?
I just downloaded the bind-chroot rpm and looked into it with Archive manager (so I am lazy), and no files, just the chroot tree. I am assuming there is some script that Archive manager does not show, or I am just missing it, because the ROOTDIR= did get added to /etc/sysconfig/named (and the one in the bind rpm is without this line). Just interesting that if you chroot, you are expected to

TimeZone Help - Finding TimeZone codes
I have looked at ?as.POSIXct ?POSIXct and many of the references that are on those pages. I am bewildered with timezones. Is there a way to get what would go into tz="" for making a function that uses POSIXct to be able to be used in all of the timezones in just the united states? This is for both windows and mac... this is the function that I am wanting to use it with

an rsync question
Is there any way to have rsync compare against a file with a *different* name? What I'd like to do is compare a vm - whatsit.img against a backup - whatsit.current, that's a symlink to whatsit.timestamp, and if different, *then* make the copy (which my script will then move to whatsit.newtimestamp, and change the symlink to point to the new one, then remove the old (or maybe save an older

[LLVMdev] compiling clang with rtti
Hi @llvm, I've already asked the following questions to the clang dev list but got no response. Maybe there is a wider audience at llvmdev and someone here can help me. The question actually boils down to: How can I compile clang with rtti enabled? And this was my original mail (with some points now better explained) to clang: <--BEGIN--> Hi @clang, I'm somewhat puzzled about

Measuring memory bandwidth utilization
I'd like to know what the cause of a particular DB server's slowdown might be. We've ruled out IOPs for the disks (~ 20%) and raw CPU load (top shows perhaps 1/2 of cores busy, but the system slows to a crawl. We're suspecting that we're simply running out of memory bandwidth but have no way to confirm this suspicion. Is there a way to test for this? Think: iostat but for

Xapian .lemony files
Hi All, I wanted to add a small tweak to my installation of the Query Parser. Should I be editing queryparser.lemony? I tried that and the make didn't include my change. I applied the same change to queryparser_internal.cc and it worked fine. Is the .lemony file something used internally and I can ignore? Or do I need to run something prior to make to convert the files? Thanks, Mike Boone.
