Kernel panic when adding partitioned virtio disk
I have a cloned kvm (that I can now get started following a shutdown
and reboot of the hypervisor host). When it starts with its original
virtio disk there is no problem. If I create a virtio disk and add it
via virt-manager it also boots without issue, although one cannot see
the new 'physical' disk. If I shutodwon the kvm guest, partition the
new virtio disk, and reboot the guest then

KVM kernel panic when additional virtio disks added
CentOS-6.6
virt-manager 0.9.0
I have cloned a template server with a 32GB virtio HDD already defined
and am attempting to add additional virtio disks. The basic cloned
system boots without error.
If I create a virtio disk with 32000/32000 megabytes I can add it and
the system reboots; providing that I do not first create a partition:
fdisk -l /dev/vg_vhost03/lv_vm_inet11.harte-lyne.ca_03

lvm and kvm
I am performing some configuration testing on a kvm host. When
installing a guest operating system is it advisable to place each
instance in a separate lv or better to accept the default and store
them on the root file system?
Respecting lvm, does one configure lvs in a virtual server to take
space from the main vg or does one allocate lv space from inside
that allocated to the virtual instance?

VirtIO disk 'leakage' across guests?
We are in the process of migrating several stand-alone
server hosts onto a CentOS-6 kvm virtual host. We also
use Webmin to administer our hosts. All of the guests,
without exception, have been cloned brom a prototype guest
using virt-manager. All of the additional VirtIO disks
assigned to some of the guests have been added through

Centos-6.8 fsck and lvms
I have a CentOS-6.8 system which has a suspected HHD failure. I have
booted it into rescue mode from a CentOS-6.5 minimal install CD in
order to run fsck -c on it. The system hosts several vms. I have
activated the lvs associated with these vm using pvscan -s ; vgscan ;
vgchange -ay. An lvscan shows the lvs as ACTIVE. None are mounted.
When I try to run fsck on any of them I see the

Transfer of LVM based guests
I am investigating the procedure to follow when moving a
KVM guest instance from one host to another where the
guest uses LVM as its storage. As a preliminary cut I
have cobbled the following together from various sources
located through Google searches:
1. Log in to vmhost_old
2. Shutdown guest
3. Create an LVM snapshot of the guest volume
3.a. lvcreate -s -L 300m -n LVM_guest_snapshot

Centos-6, LVM and KVM guest image
CentOS-6.0
I created an lv (120 Gb) to hold the image of a KVM guest instance.
I mounted this at /var/lib/libvirt/images/lv_guest01. When I do a
df I see the lv is mounted at the desired location.
When I run the virtual machine manager from the desktop I am given
the option to install the image into the root directory tree or to
browse for an alternative location. When I browse to the mount

Starting a java applet from the desktop
CentOS-5.4 i86_64
I have a calculator applet on my desktop (superbcalc.jar). When I
double click on it I get no response. If I right click and select
open with java I get no response. If I open a terminal window and
cd to Desktop and type java -jar superbcalc.jar then the applet
opens.
Does anyone have any idea why I am seeing this behaviour? There are

Well, that was not it. I still get the same errors after adding my
user id to /etc/at.allow. I tested whether job control was enabled
by moving top into the background using ctrl-z and fg to return and
that worked. Any suggestions as to what I am

NUX Skype for Linux
generic way to find where something is being called, if you known the
name of that something:
enter as your user in terminal:
# su - youruser
$ grep -irs skype . | less
now just need to parse the output, find where its being called
(probably .X?? or .x?? or .gnome??), remove it.

Ah. I now have to put this logical link in the.mozilla/plugins directory
under each users home directory. At least it works.
Sorry for the interruption.
