UC One-time reboot into alternate kernel?
If you are using GRUB 0.97 (legacy GRUB), then this capability is
provided by the "default saved" and "fallback" commands. See sections
4.3.1 and 4.3.2 in the manual:

One-time reboot into alternate kernel?
Apologies if this should be well-known, but I couldn't find anything!
Situation: a system in a remote location, with no KVM, IPMI or iLO, and
therefore no console access, only ssh. Multiple kernels listed in grub.conf.
Is there a way to reboot temporarily into one of the other kernels listed
in grub.conf, without changing the default= line, so that a subsequent
reboot will default back to

Missing grub functionality on CentOS 5
There's grub 0.97 on CentOS 5. The manual at
http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/html_node/index.html says it is
for 0.97. However, it mentions for instance a program grub-set-default
that is not present in grub-0.97-13.2. It also mentions grub.conf options
savedefault and fallback. Are these available in the CentOS grub?
I tried with savedefault and it does not create a

firewalld management on a headless server
Nice catch, Mr. Schumacher ---> The following modules are included as
standard with release 1.831 of Webmin. FirewallD firewalld.wbm.gz
Configure a Linux firewall using FirewallD, by editing allowed
services and ports.
This is likely the right tool for the job.

nfs4 problem in CENTOS6
Hi,
This is slightly offtopic, but I have been trying to resolve that problem for two days now without much success. It looks like this may be something that works with CENTOS5, but not with CENTOS6!
I have two machines, fileserver1 and server5.
fileserver1 runs on CENTOS6 (virtualized, if this is important), server5 runs on Centos5. Both are running with the most recent updates.
Server5 is a

Hi,
I updated a server yesterday from
"kernel 2.6.18-128.7.1.el5xen" to "kernel 2.6.18-164.el5xen"
After rebooting, my message log is flooded every second or so with this error messages:

UC centos 5 with xfs root?
There are 3 issues here: Grub, the kernel and RedHat.
1) Grub won't run in an XFS /boot partition, but will happily run
xfs_state1_5 to boot from an XFS root partition.
2) The kernel has supported XFS quite happily since at least 2005, I am
looking at an SGI Propack 4 manual of February that year and it states
that SLES 9 SP 1 contains the kernels with XFS support.
3) May be an issue.

funny,
my webmin installation on a banana-pi has webmin 1.831, which has
support for firewalld.
I am not sure, but I believe I got it directly from www.webmin.com.

I think performance is not just about your xml, the host system will have a bigger impact. Maybe you can see this link:

storage for mailserver
hi,
I am planning to replace my old CentOS 6 mail server soon. Most details
are quite obvious and do not need to be changed, but the old system
was running on spinning discs and this is certainly not the best
option for todays mail servers.
With spinning discs, HW-RAID6 was the way to go to increase reliability
and speed.
Today, I get the feeling, that traditional RAID is not the best
option for

strange network problem
Hi,
I am trying to fix a problem I have for about a week now.
The environment is:
--several independent servers with Centos5.4 on the latest patchlevel
(example will be server2) All of them are working properly.
--a machine with Xen installed to host some virtual machines
(xenserver1)
--domu servers on xenserver1 (crmserver1, winserver1)
The whole network is connected with a Lancom router to a
