wiki howto on custom kernel
minor error on
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Custom_Kernel?highlight=%28HowTos%29
the rpmbuild steps specifies kernel.spec, when in fact the filename is
kernel-2.6.spec, at least with 2.6.9-42.0.10.EL
this occurs a BUNCH of times on that wiki page... also kernel2.6.9 ->
kernel-2.6.9 on the cp command after 'configuring your kernel'

Recompiling the Kernel for CentOS 6.5
Hi,
I am working on CentOS 6.5 which has 2.6.32-431 kernel.
I have a problem with my driver and I need to enable Kernel-Memory
leak in the kernel for which I will have to recompile the kernel.
I get the kernel source tree from the the source rpm for my running
kernel from below link-
http://vault.centos.org/6.5/updates/Source/SPackages/kernel-2.6.32-431.11.2.el6.src.rpm
and I try to build

CentOS 9 Stream on Workstation with Ver. 1 x86_64 cpu
Hello All,
RHEL9 deprecated version 1 x86_64 cpus. My old testbench HP workstation
has such a version 1 cpu. I've tested install of Rocky Linux 9 and
CentOS9Stream but no go upon reboot after install -- kernel panic.
Is there a way to recompile the kernel to handle the legacy cpu after
install -- via some other live cd, perhaps?
Due to the fact I can't reboot after install, I'm not

Article for wiki consideration
I've recently documented simple use of a VServer with CentOS host and
guest. toracat@ said that it might be worthwhile putting on the wiki.
The present article is located at
http://home.nyc.rr.com/computertaijutsu/vserver.html
If it does get to the wiki, I would remove the fedora section and also
add a notice at the beginning of the article with dire warnings about
using a non-stock kernel.

Replacing kernel-headers with custom compiled version (from kernel.org) - safe?
Hello CentOS users,
Currently I have compiled kernel version 4.19.37, which the source is from kernel.org. I compiled the kernel by following
steps:
- get the kernel tarball and unpack it
- install prerequisties as described in https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Custom_Kernel (in addition bc and openssl-devel)
- copy the kernel configuration:
$ cp /boot/config-3.10.0-957.21.3.el7.x86_64

PHP probes
Hi all,
I remember at OSCON 2005 there was talk of adding DTrace probes
to PHP (in fact, I have a photo of Bryan and Wes working on it!).
Did they ever get into the upstream branch, ''cause I don''t recall
seeing a --enable-dtrace (or similar) configuration option when
I recently built PHP 5.2.1. If not, is there an ETA?
TIA,

I Need to Build a Custom Kernel - missing step
Hi,
I was trying to build a custom kernel following the steps defined at
https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Custom_Kernel. It seems to me that:
1. Step 4 should precede step 2
2. At the beginning of the current step two you should execute:
rpmbuild -bp kernel.spec (otherwise no kernel-related directory will
exist in `/rpmbuild/BUILD/).

Building a kernel without kabichk
I?m trying to build a 2.6.18-128.1.6.el5 kernel without kabichk. I have
downloaded the sources, installed the compiler, etc and ran the following
command
rpmbuild -bb --target=`uname -m` --without kabichk --with baseonly
--without debug \
--without debuginfo kernel-2.6.spec.
I had modified the .SPEC file according to the WIKI page

Notes on HowTos/Custom Kernel
Hello,
Today I built a custom kernel in CentOS 5 following the instructions
on this page:
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Custom_Kernel
It's excellent, but I have some remarks I would add:
1. %define buildid .your_identifier
In the commented line, there is a space after the % sign. You have to
manually remove this space. I think someone was bit by this a short
while ago. I think making this
