CentOS 5 takes one second holding each keyboard key until it shows.
I used CentOS 5 for years. Suddenly, it takes one second holding a keyboard key until it shows on the screen: # uname -a Linux nitrogen 2.6.18-371.11.1.el5PAE #1 SMP Wed Jul 23 15:54:19 EDT 2014 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux # xset -q Keyboard Control: auto repeat: off key click percent: 50 LED mask: 00000000 auto repeat delay: 660 repeat rate: 25 auto repeating keys:

MATE power save and dpms
So, I am using MATE from EPEL as my desktop on one of my laptops. The screen saver was working, however the monitors (if connected via a docking station) were not going to sleep even if selected via the GUI mate power manager. I then discovered that dpms has to be initialized via the command line before it becomes available, regardless of the GUI mate power manager setting. This documentation

Disable Kernel Screen Blanker
Hey Y'all, I'm trying to turn off the kernel screen blanker that shuts off the video after about 10 minutes of inactivity at the keyboard. After extensive googling I've found two ways to *NOT* do it. In my home .xinitrc setterm -blank 0 -powersave off -powerdown 0 xset s off In /etc/rc.local /usr/bin/setterm -powersave off -blank 0 I've tried both to no effect. Of course

VMWare 6.02 and Linux screen saver?
I have a user who freshly installed CentOS on their desktop. They also installed VMWare 6.02. When they click the mouse on their Linux desktop, the screen saver properly activates. But, when they click the mouse in their VMWare session, the Linux screen saver never activates. This has been tried for both VMWare Player and Workstation. I don't know if it makes any difference, but the

KDE Screen Saver and Centos 4.3
In Centos 4.1 I am having to user the Xscreen saver as a work around due to the KDE screen saver not working properly. Has the KDE screen saver been fixed/updated in Centos 4.3, or do you still need to use xscreensaver instead? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Monitor power save question
I decided to try the x86_64 version of CentOS 5 on my new desktop since it has an Athlon 64 X2 CPU. The one really perplexing oddity is that the monitor no longer goes to power save mode (standby) if the system is idle long enough (e.g., overnight). The "power management" option is set to put the display to sleep after thirty minutes. The display gets blanked but it never goes to

However when I turn on the screen saver with password and the screen locks I cannot get back in (none of my passwords work, including the root password and I must use the power switch to restart the workstation). Does anyone know what password the screen

Screen Saver
I know this is a little off topic but I know a lot of people use Samba to authenticate pcs and this may be useful. I was wondering if anyone has written a screensaver for Win95/98 that is password protected based on the current user, who has already been authenticated through Samba. So that if a user forgets to log out of the machine the screen saver comes on and can only be disabled by the user

Repost ----DPMS or hardware
List, Did not get any response from the first attempt, so thought I'd ask again. I've been bugged by the fact that the dpms function will not work on this machine, and perhaps now I have some clue as to why. Looking at the Xorg.0.log, I see where "Open APM failed (/dev/apm_bios) (No such file or directory)" which tells me perhaps this is the reason why it won't turn

Missing libs on install
I've run across a couple of things I'm not quite sure why, but just discovered the libtermcap.* was not installed from the CD's. I would have thought the termcap libs would be part of the base install, and in fact, when I retrieved them with yum, it does show "base" or "core". Is this just some errant behavior one time or is something broken in the install?

Screensaver (or screen blanking) at login screen - CentOS 5.2 or 5.3
Hey guys, I've done a ton of googling, searching and asking in the forums, etc, and I haven't found a way to do this... :) I'm trying to find a way of having some type of screen saver at the login screen so that if I leave a machine not logged into, it won't burn-in the screen. Does anyone know of a way to achieve this? In specific, I'd love to have it simply blank the
