NUMA placement failed, performance might be affected
Solved.
For the archives:
Noticed in xl info output that only 1 core was recognised, even though nr_cpus should show 16 on this box.
Tried rebooting and selecting the old .34 kernel, console printed "smpboot: do_boot_cpu failed(-1) to wakeup CPU#1" and CentOS failed to boot. Powered down the box fully and started back up with the latest .44 kernel and everything is working fine

Panic: file auth-request.c
Hello Dovecot list,
We've been running a really old CentOS 5 server with the stock dovecot from yum (1.0.7) for years and years with absolutely no problems. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, or something like that.
Well it finally broke, but only due to the server no longer being able to handle the load of the increasing user base (many thousands now, with hundreds of concurrent

VM migration problems
I have migrated KVM VMs from a CentOS 6 to a CentOS 7 host. All work fine post-migration, CentOS 3 (don't ask ...), CentOS 6, CentOS 7, Windows. But the CentOS 5 VMs failed. At some point during the boot process, they became unpingable and also inaccessible.
I have correlated this to the start of the irqbalance service and was wondering if it is generally considered best practice to turn it

Xen on CentOS 6.4
I heard talk of a centos-supported xen dom0 for CentOS 6.4, but I
haven't heard talk of such a thing lately, and I haven't seen where to
download it, which could just be me being stupid.

CentOS 8 Install as DOMU in PV Environment
Hi,
In general, PV tends not to be supported in newer distribution releases.
This is mostly due to HVM performance and flexibility nowadays, which
just was not the case back in the days when PV ruled.
I am curious why you are trying PV.

Inconsistent behavior between x86_64 and ppc64 when creating guests with NUMA node placement
Hello all,
I was recently trying out NUMA placement for my guests on both x86_64
and ppc64 machines. When booting a guest on the x86_64 machine, the
following specs were valid (obviously, just notable excepts from the xml):
<memory unit='KiB'>8388608</memory>
<currentMemory unit='KiB'>8388608</currentMemory>

git clone --recursive
Hi,
We use a git submodule for gnu-efi.
What would be the downside of changing
git clone git://repo.or.cz/syslinux.git
into
git clone --recursive git://repo.or.cz/syslinux.git
on the Syslinux wik?
Cheers

Execution of pre-bridge handlers
Hello Asterisk Users,
Hope you all doing fine!
I am working with a quite complex dialplan, and I've come to some
situations where it makes some nasty use of pre-bridge handlers.
The pre-bridge handlers wiki (https://wiki.asterisk.org/
wiki/display/AST/Pre-Bridge+Handlers) doesn't have the big warning the
pre-dial one has indicating it must return and must not put the
caller/callee in

Slightly OT: Centos KVM Host/Guest functions and LVM considerations
Greetings -
I will be getting a new server for my company in the next few months and am
trying to get a better understanding of some of the basic theoretical
approaches to using Centos KVM on a server. I have found plenty of things
to read that discuss how to install KVM on the host and how to install a
guest and setup the network bridge, and all the other rudimentary tasks.
But all of

[PATCH 00 of 10 v3] Automatic NUMA placement for xl
Hello,
Third version of the NUMA placement series Xen 4.2.
All the comments received during v2''s review have been addressed (more details
in single changelogs).
The most notable changes are the following:
- the libxl_cpumap --> libxl_bitmap renaming has been rebased on top of the
recent patches that allows us to allocate bitmaps of different sizes;
- the heuristics for deciding

asterisk/oh323 segfaults
Dear List,
I've compiled asterisk (both 0.9.0 and the CVS-04/19/04 source
trees). I'm using the oh323 channel driver version 0.5.10, OpenH323
v1.12.2, PWlib v1.5.2
When run on a RedHat 9 system, I am constantly getting seg faults.
This happens even when I tried removing the oh323 channel driver, so
it appears to be something with asterisk. I get crashes either when
attempting to

hot-plug vfb on Xen domU?
I want to give my clients access to their Xen domU consoles using VNC. This works great using vfb device configured as type=vnc.
However I have 2 problems:
* I can't figure out how I can add a vfb device to a running domain without restarting it (I have 100+ domU's I want to enable this on, and want to avoid restarting them all if possible)
* Related, I can't figure out how I can

centos 6 domU doesn't see all memory?
I'm running CentOS 6 x86_64 domU on CentOS 5 x86_64 dom0
The host is running 2.6.18-238.19.1.el5xen
The guest is 2.6.32-220.2.1.el6.x86_64
'xm list' on the host shows 512mb memory allocated.
'free -m' in the guest shows 224mb memory.
'xm mem-set 21 1024' (21 being the domU ID), 'xm list' now shows 1024mb, but in the guest I now see 736mb.

CentOS 7 / Xen 4.6 on UEFI system?
Wondering if anyone has managed to get Xen to boot from UEFI?
We have a relatively new server with a Supermicro X11SSH-F mainboard with an M.2 SSD. If we switch the boot mode to Legacy in the BIOS no boot devices show up. The vendor says this is because M.2 SSD is only supported in UEFI mode. We even tried installing some spinning SATA drives and a USB thumb drive but those don't show up as

VM migration problems
I may have run into this issue before too, but in my case the VMs ran fine with only 1 vcpu so I booted them that way and left them like that. It was just a few small legacy VMs and I didn't spend any more time on it.
Did you try booting with only 1 vcpu?

[PATCH] Allow explicit NUMA placements of guests
Hi,
this patch introduces a new config file option (numanodes=[x]) to
specify a list of valid NUMA nodes for guests. This will extend (but not
replace) the recently introduced automatic placement. If several nodes
are given, the current algorithm will choose one of them. If none of the
given nodes has enough memory, this will fall back to the automatic
placement.
