This timing actually is likely to be more convenient for my downstreams, as most of the devs will be away. That way we can ‘ease’ into our transition with a limited number of devs being affected by it… That said, from a downstream-perspective, it looks like we’ll still be keeping ‘master’ updated for a while, right? > We will lock the master branch and change it to be readonly (with the

Ah, I see what you mean. I would have no problem with January 7th being pushed back a while if that helps out your transition. Would that be possible Mike? I notice that on https://github.com/github/renaming it says: """If you haven’t renamed your default branch yet, consider waiting until later this year <https://github.com/github/renaming#later-this-year>. We’re investing in tools to make renaming the default branch of an existing repository a seamless experience for both maintainers and contributors.""" Is

I'm very supportive of this switch, but I do think that the timing leaves a bit to be desired. Many people will be taking time off for the holidays at the end of the year, and forcing a change to be complete by week 1 of the new year (since January 7 is part of our first work-week in 2021), might make things more difficult than they should be. This is also problematic because lots of

Samba Team encourages supporting the Software Freedom Conservancy
For a number of years now, the Samba Team has been a member of the Software Freedom Conservancy. They handle quite a bit of administration for our project as well as pursuing GPL compliance. If you'd like to see more about what they do, please check: https://sfconservancy.org/about/ We urge you to support the Conservancy. Here is a message from our own Jeremy Allison:

Time to set a coding style for Syslinux?
Given the number of people that are starting to be involved in Syslinux development, I wanted to start a discussion about a common coding style, for C code in particular. Currently, a lot of the code in Syslinux is written in different styles, partly because my own style has changed over the years. There are pretty much two alternatives that I think are realistic: a) Linux kernel coding style:

--compare-dest option
I'm translating rsync.1, and i'm having some problems with the --compare-dest option description, actually i dont understand the part which describes the usefulness of this option, it says : This is useful for doing transfers to a new destination while leaving existing files intact, and then doing a flash-cutover when all files have been successfully transferred (for

moving netbios alias between machines
I would like to move a netbios alias (e.g. 'testname') from one machine to another. Seems like an easy enough thing to do: remove it from machine 'a', and add it to machine 'b'. I've done this, but all's not well in netbios land. My clients still want to talk to the old machine, and do. Do I simply have to be more patient? How patient? Is there anything that

Voice calls sent to fax extension
I have a situation that has repeated itself a few times. Someone calls into Asterisk and is connected with a voice extension. At some point during the call, the log shows "chan_zap.c: DTMF digit: f on Zap/2-1". At this point, the call is redirected to receive a fax and the Asterisk voice extension is hung up. The users report that there were no noticable tones heard just before the

Question about replication
Good morning, I?m looking at dovecot replication for the first time for a particular use case: The VM running dovecot is currently in a public cloud, and I want to move it on-premises, so I want to replicate all mail data from the older instance to the new (then cutover internal DNS) (and in the process update to newer features on the internal instance such as mdbox vs Maildir). However, the

We are equally excited about working with you over summer. I think you missed reply by Olly on IRC, you can find it in logs here: https://botbot.me/freenode/xapian/2018-04-24/?msg=99336093&page=1 - olly icebyte[m]: i think that probably needs to go through SFC ( https://sfconservancy.org/) as the "legal entity" - 2:05 am
