[PATCH] lvm: support lvm2 older than 2.02.107
lvm2 2.02.107 adds the -S/--select option used in lvs to filter out only public LVs (see RHBZ#1278878). To make this work again with versions of lvm2 older than that, only on old versions filter out thin layouts and compose the resulting device strings ourselves. The filtering done is much simplier than what "-S lv_role=public" will do, but should be good enough for our need. ---

[PATCH] daemon: lvm: Only return public LVs from guestfs_lvs API (RHBZ#1278878).
When a disk image uses LVM thinp (thin provisioning), the guestfs_lvs API would return the thinp pools. This confused other APIs because thinp pools don't have corresponding /dev/VG/LV device nodes. Filter the LVs that are returned using "lv_role=public". Thanks: Fabian Deutsch --- daemon/lvm.c | 4 +++- 1 file changed, 3 insertions(+), 1 deletion(-) diff --git a/daemon/lvm.c

[PATCH 0/5] Improve LVM handling in the appliance
Hi, this series improves the way LVM is used in the appliance: in particular, now lvmetad can eventually run at all, and with the correct configuration. Also improve the listing strategies. Thanks, Pino Toscano (5): daemon: lvm-filter: set also global_filter daemon: lvm-filter: start lvmetad better daemon: lvm: improve filter for LVs with activationskip flag set daemon: lvm: list

[PATCH] daemon: lvm: Ignore LVs with the activationskip flag set (RHBZ#1306666).
When listing logical volumes, ignore the ones which don't get activated automatically. No /dev/VG/LV device node is created for these ones which confuses APIs that attempt to do 'guestfs_lvs' followed by opening the device node. Note that 'guestfs_lvs_full' is unaffected by this change. --- daemon/lvm.c | 6 +++++- 1 file changed, 5 insertions(+), 1 deletion(-) diff --git

Hook script to preserve one partition untouched during install
This hook script tries to address the fact that a RHEV-H installation will format all the storage devices available in the machine in order to create HostVG and AppVG with all the available space. It may be the case that RHEV-H needs to respect and co-exist with a proposed partitioning scheme, not getting all the storage space for HostVG and AppVG volume groups. The proposed solution adds the

how to stop an in-progress fsck that runs at boot?
I can't seem to find the answer to this question via web search... I changed some hardware on a server, and upon powering it back on, got the "/dev/xxx has gone 40 days without being check, check forced" message. Now it's running fsck on a huge (2 TB) ext3 filesystem (5400 RPM drives no less). How can I stop this in-progress check? Ctrl-C doesn't seem to have any effect.

Character escaping in item name
Hi! In the rsync man page under " -8, --8-bit-output", it says: . . . All control characters (but never tabs) are always escaped, regardless of this option's setting. The escape idiom that started in 2.6.7 is to output a literal backslash (\) and a hash (#), followed by exactly 3 octal digits. For example, a newline would output as "\#012". A literal backslash

Pivot without copy
Hi, Is it possible to "pivot" to a new image without doing blockcopy or blockpull? I know how to use snapshots and blockpull to create a new image and pivot to using it live, but what I would like to do is to have a VM switch from using imageA.qcow2 to image2.qcow2 while running. I don't see why this wouldn't be possible since some of the existing libvirt tools can do this when

Questions on qcow, qcow2 versus LVM
I''ve been using lvm under centos to create the backing store for domUs and although the performance seems acceptable it has some shortcomings. The biggest of which is the LVM bug which prevents me from removing an lv (it says it is still mounted and it definitely isnt). I thought this was just a centos bug but it appears to be evident in debian and ubuntu too and I really can''t

Live blockcopy onto storage pool that is an NFS mount?
Hello, I am running qemu-kvm 1.4.0 and libvirt 1.0.2 on Ubuntu 12.04. I have two NFS mountpoints configured as two separate pools in virsh: <pool type='dir'> <name>nfs1</name> <uuid>419d799c-2493-6ebc-6848-53b0919e7bad</uuid> <capacity unit='bytes'>6836057014272</capacity> <allocation unit='bytes'>0</allocation>

live migration to localhost with lvm based storage
I have lvm based (thin pool) storage on local disks. I need to move vps from one vg on one disk to another. Does it possible to migrate to localhost with blockcopy migration to another vg? I'm understand that i can move lv from one vg to another, but i don't need that. -- Vasiliy Tolstov, e-mail: v.tolstov@selfip.ru jabber: vase@selfip.ru

Re: Pivot without copy
Hi Eric, Thanks for the info. I see the value in this, but it isn't quite what I was looking for. Basically what I want to do is to switch between snapshots quickly. For instance, I am currently working on designing a HA SQL implementation with failover. So right now I have 5 VM's running postgresql as a replication group. I am trying a lot of different things and often have to take a

Live snapshots of a single block device
Hello, I am working on a script to automatically create live snapshots of running VMs using qemu-kvm 1.4.0 and libvirt 1.0.2. If a VM has multiple disks, I'd like to back them up individually with separate calls to snapshot-create-as, so I can more easily manage the disk images. The code I have now is essentially as follows: virsh snapshot-create-as --domain "vmname" --name
