CentOS 6 guest OS does not detect reboot/shutdown signal from virt-manager
My setup is as follows:
Host OS: Debian Wheezy amd64 stock kernel (3.2), virt-manager v0.9.1
Guest VMs: A bunch of Linux based servers - CentOS 6, Debian 6/7,
Ubuntu 12.04 (all amd64 with stock kernel). All of them defined using
virt-manager GUI interface.

Ubuntu guest OSs but not the CentOS 6 guests.

tty login vs Gnome screen lock
I have a Centos 4.4 system (unpatched) that lets me log in via
tty/console, but when the Gnone screen lock kicks in, my password is
unable to unlock. I am absolutely certain I an typing the correct
password. I had to Alt-F1 to log in that way, issue a sudo reboot, then
logged back in, enabled the screen lock, typed my password again, and it
would not unlock.
What am I missing?
Thanks.

AW: tty login vs Gnome screen lock
Which Keyboard-Layout do you use ?
Maybe that's the trick...
Well, i use Germay Keyboard Layout,
but when the Screen lock is coming up
The "z" and "y" is swapped
(qwertz vs. querty). Try logging in
Using us-keyboard-Layout.
Just my 2 cents...

"map to guest = bad user" ignored in Samba 4?
I would like to migrate some of my Samba 3.x domains to Samba 4. Part of
the functionality of the current system is allowing some Windows XP Pro
computers, which are not joined to the domain, access to some public
shares on the Samba server. I tried using "map to guest = bad user" with
Samba 4 - but it appears to be completely ignored and the Windows XP
machine keeps on prompting

Unable to shutdown/reboot a SLES 10 SP4 VM
Hello,
I am unable to do a graceful shutdown or reboot of SLES 10 SP4 virtual machines (Kernel version: 2.6.16.60-0.85.1-default) with virsh shutdown or virsh reboot commands. (e.g virsh shutdown "vmname" ). On issuing these commands there is no impact on the VM. Also unable to perform the shutdown or reboot operations from the menu options available on the console when accessing the

Online resize of guest disks without reboot/shutdown ?
Hello all,
I just notice the new feature in the latest version 4 release.
Any one know how to do this ?
I have tried lvextend the partition size in dom0,
but domU doesn''t see the change.
I also need to reboot to make domU reread the block size.
Any idea?
Best regards,
Chao-Rui

Bug#630984: xen-utils-common: shutdown hangs with xenwatch and reboot being blocked
Package: xen-utils-common
Version: 4.0.0-1
Severity: normal
Tags: squeeze
The host runs (at the time of testing) a single linux-x86 domu (128MB,

When issuing a reboot, everything looks as expected:
- domu is saved
- xend is stopped
- drbd stopped
- lvms unmounted
- md0..4 stopped
and the message "rebooting now" appears, but nothing happens until

Re: libvirt guests graceful shutdown upon hosts powerdown/reboot
should have mentioned, apologies, suspend is the graceful
shutdown of the guest I was thinking of.
Guest is win2k8, why would it not suspend?

libvirt guests graceful shutdown upon hosts powerdown/reboot
hi everybody
by an assumption I expected VM guests to be shut down/off
gracefully when the host is being powered down or rebooted,
but this does not seem to be the case so I wonder..
Am I missing some libvirt components/packages ?
Or my assumption is incorrect and guests have to be shutdown
manually?
it's all SL 7 and guest are M$

CentOS 7.1 + KVM + OVMF for UEFI - can't reboot VM, only shutdown and start
Hi,
I'm trying to use OVMF to run EFI-partitioned Windows 8.0 virtualized on
my laptop. The reason is to reuse the original HDD image intact without
re-installation of any kind.
I'm running fully updated CentOS 7.1 (1503). Virtualized storage
subsystem is VirtIO if it matters.
I'm almost OK with the notable exception of inability to reboot the VM.
OVMF bootloader doesn't

xfce on CentOS 7: can't lock screen
Ok, trying to bypass the usual flames (I used CDE for years, then
KDE until it got dumbed-down too much, and we all know how GNOME
has turned out) ... I've decided to try out xfce on CentOS 7.
I grabbed xfce from epel by installing the following via yum:
epel-release
@xfce
So far it's pretty good, and is giving me the basic features I'm looking
at without getting in my way.

Fwd: OpenVSwitch and libvirt integration problem at shutdown/reboot
Hi everyone, I'm forwarding this mail that I wrote to OpenVSwitch dev
list because I think that you could maybe help me a little :-)
What did you think about the patch to libvirt that I'm using?. At
least, it worked for me :-)
Thanks.
