Dual boot with Windows 8.1, UEFI
(apologies for the length - there are questions at the end...) I've been running Linux for 20 years, and done a lot of dual-boots. I know that's old-school now, but I run Linux 95% of the time yet don't want to lose a Windows system I've paid for - but I've never tried removing it from a system and reinstalling the same licenced copy inside a virtual machine. I bought a

Win10 pro w/ outlook in Samba 3.6.25 domain
I have the issue that a PC running Win10pro in a Samba 3.6.25 (NT4) domain is not able to successfully connect to an Office365 account. With a local user the same account works, with the domain user: no I am not able to instantly upgrade to ADS and/or samba4 there, so I got to come up with a quick solution. Do the changes in the registry conflict here? I did: sc.exe config lanmanworkstation

create xen image using existing xp .img file
Heres my setup. I have a workstation running windows xp sp3 that is currently acting as my symantec ghost and symantec endpoint server. For backup purposes I want to virtualize the physical machine so I can then just backup the xen image as opposed to making a copy of the hard drive image and having to transfer it to another machine in the case of a hardware failure. I connected an external

Samba on Debian 8
Just a general question ahead: I have various issues with Samba-4.2.10 on Debian 8.6 (in combination with NT4-based domain and Win10pro-clients). I assume later samba-releases would help around these issues so I wonder if there are any more recent packages available anywhere. I would like to avoid compiling samba on my own, not because I am not able to do that but in terms of lower maintenance

Windows XP fixmbr from Centos?
I am still dead on my corporate system, and the XP boot CD I brought won't boot. And so far I have not found anyone here at the IETF meeting that happens to have one in their bag of tricks... So I found instructions on doing this in Ubuntu: http://www.arsgeek.com/2008/01/15/how-to-fix-your-windows-mbr-with-an-ubuntu-livecd/ I have my Centos install CD 1 of 6 that gets me into rescue.

pxelinux and bar
Has anyone been able to boot a bartpe image successfully using pxelinux or does anyone know if this is impossible? For those who don't know, bartpe is a legitimate way to make a trimmed down installation of Windows XP or Server 2003 using your installation media. For more information on bartpe see: http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder Basically the pebuilder gathers the minimum files needed to

Re: kvm/libvirt on CentOS7 w/Windows 10 Pro guest
Hey all,  This horrid bug seems to be back after the system got all sloggy slow so I logged in via RDP and asked Windows to reboot. It was taking forever for RDC to come back, so I logged into the system and brought up KVM GUI which displayed Windows showing the login backdrop with "Restarting..." and the spinning dots. After about 20min, I gave up and clicked the hardware reset. Now

Re: kvm/libvirt on CentOS7 w/Windows 10 Pro guest
Why do you reckon this is to do with your virtualisation system (presumably qemu/kvm, though you don't say) rather than Windows 10? Reload domain configuration on guest restart
Hi all, as you surely know, after changing some domain parameters via libvirt (ie: NIC type), the guest need to be shutdown and restarted. A simple reboot will not be sufficient, as libvirt will not launch a new qemu domain (ie: the same qemu process will be in charge to start the new guest instance). It is possible to configure libvirt to start a new qemu domain on guest reboot? Can the
