CentOS7 - Serial Console and Flow Control
Hello List, I'm ironing out details to upgrade a few systems to CentOS7. My servers have BMC with Serial over LAN support. In C5 and C6, I determined how to have BIOS/POST, kernel, and serial console access. I'm reading up on the method to accomplish the pieces with C7. Presently SoL output works, so I see BIOS/POST messages and the GRUB boot list. My changes to enable serial

Can''t login with Xen and Gentoo
Hi all, I installed Xen 3.0.2 using Gentoo portage. The kernel boots ok to the console but when I try to login either as root or myself it won''t authenticate. I read some posts that mentioned not having a populated /dev directory but this is in place. It also contains a full range of tty* and has console in it. I''m at a loss for what to look for. The console login is ok

Solaris / OpenSolaris
I'm having some difficulties pxe booting Solaris. So far I have tried the mboot.c32, and the pxegrub shipped with Solaris. At first I had some problems with blksize, but this disapeared when I changed from atftpd to tftpd-hpa. The point at which I'm stuck now is, the kernel and x86.microroot/x86.miniroot is loaded but then VMWare crashes. I might try with real hardware, but I thought

Completely disable local keyboard input in Syslinux / Extlinux?
Hello list, I'm trying to reuse a fairly old PC based embedded system. It has no video output at all, no VGA, nothing older, and no keyboard / mouse connectors. The console is on a standard RS232 interface, including BIOS output and the minimal BIOS loader. The BIOS emulates / redirects text output to and keyboard input from the console RS232 interface, but unfortunately, this emulation

Booting dom0: Kernel Panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
Hello list, I tried to install Xen 3.1.0 on Scientific Linux (RHEL4), but this mission failed.. Hope you can help me by finding the reason for my problem. I downloaded the xen sources from http://bits.xensource.com/oss-xen/release/3.1.0/src.tgz/xen-3.1.0-src.tgz and compiled them by running "make" and "./install.sh". This seemed to work. After setting up grub like this,

Password protection
Hi, I would like to request password protection in syslinux. I know that it has come up a few times on the mailing list (google for "site:www.zytor.com syslinux password"), and on http://www.zytor.com/pipermail/syslinux/2002-May/000421.html you say interesting things about COMBOOT images. So I was wondering if I could bring that feature request to your attention again :) grub has it,

Problem with serial output
Hello, I''ve got a problem to get a serial output on grub, xen, linux-xen0 and getty. The serial works fine with grub, xen and linux-xen0, but I''m unable to start a console, where I''m able to login. I dont''t get any output. If I change only the getty from ttyS0 to ttyS1 than I''m able to login.. At the attachment you can see what I see through a serial,

Please Help -- Raid shutdown problem
We are running redhat 7.2 with 2.4 kernel. There is a 2 disk RAID 1 array which had a disk fail. The disk that failed had GRUB on it which in turn made the system unbootable. Our recovery method in a time of panic was to reinstall on a new disk saving certain partitions and reconstructing the array afterwards. During the reinstall we made a boot disk. Now we have 2 problems. 1.) The system will

syslinux hard drive boot problem
I've recently moved from pxegrub to pxelinux (well, syslinux...) for many benefits. (memory fingerprint, etc) Its running perfectly, and exactly how I like it, except. LOCALBOOT 0 DOES NOT actually mount and boot the hard drive. All it seems to be doing is actually return error to the BIOS, which then boots the next device in it's list. This isnt a problem on most systems, but on

unattended install via nfs
Hello, Does anyone have a guide for setting up an nfs server for unattended deployment of centos5? Basically what i want to do is boot a system from CD media, pass a boot parameter nfs, and ks= options then walk away, the box goes out to the nfs server, finds the kickstart file, reads, and does it. I've got several machines and i'd rather not do manual installs. Thanks. Dave.

RAID1 building via hardware
Hi all, I?m trying to create a RAID1 on a machine. I?ve already configurated BIOS (mother board, Intel, S500VSA SATA) so as to build RAID1 via hardware. However on CentOS Installer, when I reach "disk setup" screen, it shows up 2 devices (/dev/sda and /dev/sdb). Is this right (both devices being showed)? How should I proceed on this moment? If I create the
