Cache / IO Setting for qcow2 disks with prealloc=metadata?
Hello,
i´ve done 2 vm with qcow2 disks and created them with qemu-img with
prealloc=metadata.
Virt-Manager shows me under the performance settings for the Storage,
Cache= Hypervisor Default IO= Hypervisor Default
Is this the best setting? Or do i choose "native" IO on
prealloc=metadata created disks? And do i have to change Cache too?

Windows, qemu.agent is it possible to shut down services in running windows server?
Hi List,
i installed qemu-agent on a windows server and it is working as
expected.
I can send via virsh commands. I already performed successful an online
backup of an windows server.
Now my question is, is it possible to execute commands on the windows
server via qemu-agent?
I want to shutdown the MSSQL Service before doing backups.
Is that possible? i dont find any helpful pages in net.

Re: vm in qcow2 runs on host A but not on host B
This might be related to the configuration of the virtual machine. A
machine configured to have cpu X might not start up when it is changed to
cpu Y. We also observed that a windows host does not boot on a ubuntu host
with the default kvm configuration.

Please try newer libvirt. There were some fixes related to iptables/nf_tables
in libvirt in recent releases, so it might just solve that for you.

Intel integrated graphics VGA passthrough problem - I/O virtualisation disabled
Hello all,
I have already use xen for about a year. I use recently released Opensuse 11.3 (use Xen 4.0) for my experiment. I want to run 3D test in HVM(windows xp), so I want to use VGA passthrough technology. But there is something not work properly.
I google a lot of time, it says, I/O virtualisation should be enabled, but I can solve it.
I run "xm dmesg" command, in the

I used to use KVM for virtualisation and have now moved back to it, but I
have a problem.
When i used to install the guest machine with virt-install i used to use
the -x "extra args" part to set the console for the install and guest, but
it no longer works.
Here is the command i use:
virt-install -n server01 -r 512 --os-variant=virtio26 -c /isos/c5u5.iso

Question about storage for virtualisation
Hi !
I'm about to deploy a new server that will host several virtual host for
mainly website hosting purposes. My server will be a Xeon 3440 or 3450
with 32 gigs of ram (the max of that board). So I will have 8 logical
cores. At the moment, I don't know how many vms I will have, in the
order of 5 or 6.
I am quite new to managing VMs, I did play alot with them over the

virtualisation
Hi,
I run a small company and I would like to virtualise our setup. My internet
provider offers a cloud server running CentOS. The server is managed by
vmware software, they haven't been able to tell me exactly what. I wanted
to know is it possible to virtualise such a setup, and Have CentOS running
as the virtual OS that every client sees. Is there a solution similar to

App virtualisation, not OS virtualisation
I would like to run multiple copies of an application on a PC with
multiple remote dumb clients.
It would seem to me that running Xen would be a sub-optimal solution as
I would need a copy of the OS running for every copy of the application,
but I was wondering whether a subset of Xen or Xen techniques could be used.
There are 2 barriers to running multiple applications with remote access:

WineTools (2.1.0) + WINEPREFIX
Hi!
I have difficulties using WineTools 2.1.0 with WINEPREFIX set.
It does not matter whether use wineprefixcreate or not.
I want to start a new wine-Konfiguration from scratch:
export WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine
wineprefixcreate (or not)

When I try "Create a fake windows drive", WineTools doesn't create one
although it said it did!
