libvirt 0.9.9: could not open /dev/net/tun: Operation not permitted
Hi, I'm running the latest libvirt 0.9.9.
I'm trying to start a VIF of type "Ethernet". I know there are problems with that because you need to be root in order to control the tun/tap driver.
I changed my qemu.conf file to
user = "root"
group = "root"
clear_emulator_capabilities = 0
However, I still get an error when trying to start my VM:

Cifs permission for mac guests
Hi,
I have a FreeNAS server with a cifs share, accessible by all the lan
users (guest access)
Every one can access it and write in it.
When Mac OSX users are creating a file or a folder, they write it with
the following permissions :
rwxr-xr-x
Rhis only happen with mac users.
So the other users can't modify or delete theses files/folders.
How to configure my share if I want that all the

Re: libvirt 1.19: could not open drive file (permission denied)
@requillart
Don't get me wrong. It's no problem to use other partitions. Only, you have to add the location to the storage pool of libvirt...
Sorry, no experience with gnome-boxes.
@crequill
Add a new storage pool with the destination /home/crequill/VM
You can't fool apparmour with a link...
Also with adding the storage pool, it's easier to get a clear picture of the usage of your

samba and ntfs flash drives ???
Hi All,
Google is killing me here!
Scientific Linux 7.2, 64 bit
$ rpm -qa samba
samba-4.2.3-11.el7_2.x86_64
Is there some trick to mounting an NTFS USB flash drive and
sharing it with Samba?
I am trying to share an NTFS flash drive with samba.
If the drive is not mounted, I can do what I want
from Windows 7 and XP on the mount point. I have
full access.
But, when I mount the stick to the

cepstral TTS and app_swift
We are having some major problems with app_swift since we went live. It
is regularly segfaulting.
I don't know if this is my fault or not, but here's the story:
Installed the cepstral voices (at the time, 4.0) on our test system
(2.6.9-42.0.10.ELsmp)
and later added some extra voices (now 4.2). All worked fine - we stress
tested (20+ simultaneous calls).
Move to live (

rsync keeps writing files over
Hi Steven,
Yes, both file systems are the same.
rsync -nri --modify-window=1 <src> <dest>
Gives me the following for most files >f..T.......

ownership and permissions using rsync in daemon mode
I've tried as best I can to get this worked out, and crawled the web and the
documentation but I just can't seem to figure out how to maintain ownership
and permissions from the sending side using rsync in daemon mode. I feel I
have to be missing something stupid with the proper use of uid/gid/fake
super. I'm trying to automate synchronizing some program binaries between a

I am at wits end...So far it seems dovecot is light years ahead of UW-IMAP. Glad to have UW-IMAP behind me...well almost.
My setup = Sendmail 8.13.4 with Procmail delivery to /var/spool/mail/<userfile>
openssl 0.9.8

FW: Permissions issue
I am at loss on this mysterious file permission issue. I cannot move the file
out of the directory, but I can rename it. I cannot read the file.
It is not open by any processes, the filesystem is in read write mode. I am

[CentOS 5] tftp-server, unable to create new files (even with "-c" option)
Hi all,
I'm trying to setup a TFTP server to serve as repository for the
config of all my Cisco network devices.
As per the the tftpd man, I've added the "-c" option into the /etc/

(unless the file is already present).

Linux permissions vs Samba permissions
Okay, admittedly I'm running an old version 2.0.5, but, why do I have to set
the eXecute permission in Linux before Samba will let a Windows client see
any files? Why would execute have anything to do with read and/or write? I
would think I could set -rw-rw---- or -rw-rw-rw- and be just fine, but oh
no, you get an empty list and cannot create new files until I change it
to -rwxrwx--- or
