autofs update brakes nested automount
On my CentOS5 boxes the automounter fails after the last update to
autofs.x86_64 1:5.0.1-0.rc2.177.el5
No update is seen on CentOS6 and things still work there.
The home directory of users is setup using an auto.home map which is
distributed using NIS:

Wine dummy-spitting
I've got a real problem with the debian (unstable) wine 0.0.200202228-1
Whenever I try to run a windows executable - of any sort, although it's
Jeskola Buzz in the example I've attached - wine cheerfully spits the
dummy. I realise that the DRIVE_Init warnings are ignorable, but

make check reg-tests-1b.R fails with Ubuntu R
Today I built R from source on a 32-bit Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS box, and
saw that the "make check" tests/reg-tests-1b.R failed. From the
output at the end of my "tests/reg-tests-1b.Rout.fail" file, the
problem is appearing in the "identical(z, x %*% t(y))" test code
below.
I then tried the stock R provided by the Ubuntu r-base-core binary
package, and to my surprise, it

Own R function doubt
Hi to all the people again,
I was writting a simply function in R, and wish to collect the results in a
excel file. The work goes as follows,
Ciervos<-function(K1, K0, A, R,M,Pi,Hembras)
{B<-(K1-K0)/A
T1<-(R*Pi*Hembras-M*Pi+B)/(Pi-M*Pi+R*Pi*Hembras)
P1<-Pi-B
R1<-P1*Hembras*R
M1<-P1*M
T2<-(R1-M1+B)/(P1-M1+R1)
P2<-P1-B
R2<-P2*Hembras*R

Simplify and By Convert Factors To Numeric Values
Good day,
It's not described anywhere in the help page, but tapply and by functions will, by default, convert factors into numeric values. Perhaps this needs to be documented or the behaviour changed.
> tapply(1:3, 1:3, function(x) factor(LETTERS[x], levels = LETTERS))

The documentation states "... tapply returns a multi-way array containing the values ..." but

Slow XP -> Samba 3 (but not FTP etc)
Dear All,
Sorry to repeat a question I've seen mentioned before, but have not been
able to find a solution to my specific instance.
I have an XP SP2 box (and one with no SP), and some Win2K boxes, and a Samba
server (3.0.9-2). The Win2K boxes can all copy files to the server at a
reasonable speed, but the XP boxes are all dreadfully slow. FTP from the XP
boxes is fine. The XP boxes can

weird permissions issue
Recently some folks in our engineering group started encountering a
problem where they can't write to or alter files or folders they did not
create.
Anyone know what could be causing this type of problem? The users having
the problem are all in the eng group is /etc/groups. smb.conf for that
share:

#smb.conf is the main Samba configuration file. You find a full commented

Feature request - umask for index files
I'd like a separate feature for setting umask for index and cache files
differently from email files.
The reason is that I'm putting indexes in a separate location and I need
group create rights in directories. Otherwise what happens is that the
first user creates the directories, but the second user for the domain
that has a different UID gets an error.

why use lmhost is samba1.9.18.p7
Hello samba gurus
I have used samba1.9.18.p4 since jan/1998. I have FreBSD 2.2.6 and
samba1.9.18p4 worked just fine.
I read in bugtraq that a new version of samba has been released and I
thought in upgrade to samba1.9.18.p7
Well I did the same things that I did when I compiled samba1.9.18.p4
1.Edit the Makefile ( I edit the same lines as samba1.9.18.p4)
2.make
3.make installbin

[PATCH] ia64: Fix shared build
We need to build with -mno-pic to disable all uses of GP, as well as use
a custom linker script to avoid collisions between klibc.so's and the
executable's segments.

[PATCH 1/2] ia64: Fix invalid memory access in vfork
Commit 8418552 ("[klibc] ia64: Fix shared build") missed this use of the
GP register, although the code appears to have been dubious anyway,
assuming the address of errno was the first thing pointed to by GP.

calculating correlation coefficients on repeated measures
Dear list,
I have 9 repeated measures (measurement variable == 'Delta13C') for
individuals (ID variable == 'Individual_ID'. Each repeated measure is
"indexed" (right term?) by the variable 'FeatherPosition' and given as
c('P1', 'P2', 'P3', 'P4', 'P5', 'P6', 'P7', 'P8', 'P9'). I would like
