FreeBSD DDoS protection
Hi, I have a router running BGP and OSPF (bird) on FreeBSD. Are there any best practises one can take in order to protect the network from DDoS attacks. I know this isn't easy. But I would like to secure my network as much as possible. Even if I'am not able to prevent or block a ddos I would like to get some info (snmp trap parhaps) regarding the attack. Then I can contact my ISP or

OT: What netflow tool do you recommends me?
Hi all, I need to setup a netflow reporting tool under CentOS server to collect traffic data from several firewalls. What netflow tool do you recommends me? Of course, Open source. Many thanks. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: <http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/attachments/20061114/b862b4c1/attachment-0002.html>

ntop from rpmforge
I don't know why I haven't signed up for this list before since we use CentOS all over the place. The list is very useful and it is good for me to participate and "give back" to the community. Anywho, I wanted to post this response to a thread that was created back in November 2008 about the ntop daemon failing to start. I'm currently setting up ntop as a NetFlow &

Monitoring and statistics through libvirt
Hi folks, is it possible to monitor and gather statistics in realtime (CPU, memory, HDD, network, ... - something like dstat) of guest systems with libvirt through console from host system (KVM based)? If yes, do those guests need to be created through libvirt? Thanks for your help and time.

Listing on Host sFlow under Applications>Monitoring
Would it be possible to list the Host sFlow project in the Monitoring section of http://libvirt.org/apps.html? Host sFlow <http://host-sflow.sourceforge.net/> Host sFlow is a light weight agent running on KVM hypervisors that links to libvirt library and exports standardized cpu, memory, network and disk metrics for all virtual machines using sFlow protocol. Thanks, Peter

Attach / detach problem for passthrough/SR-IOV in libvirt
Hi all I just encountered a problem in libvirt while was trying to attach and detach a sr-iov vf to my VM The version of my libvirt is 1.1.1-0ubuntu8.5 I tried to attach the device using following xml <interface type='hostdev' managed='yes'> <mac address='5c:01:fd:12:34:58'/> <source> <address type='pci'

Collecting system stats
Hi, I am trying to create a report across all my KVM hypervisors using libvirt API and I need some assistance in figuring out the right API calls. My report will contain the total available memory, CPU, disk across all hypervisors, versus the amount used by the virtual machines. This report will help figure out if we are running low on hypervisor disk, CPU or memory and if we need to add more. I

How are you measuring CPU usage?
Hello, Recently I''ve received some complaints that there is excessive but intermittent latency of network traffic to domUs on some of my servers. Upon investigation it seems that on some servers, indeed traffic is occasionally delayed by up to 140ms where something like 5ms RTT would be expected. The average RTT is not unusual; since this is only occasional packets it only affects the

XCP bandwidth management
Hi all, I''ve got XCP 1.0 up and running nicely and would like to use it in production. However I''m struggling with the concept of bandwidth management. It seems like such a common problem that everyone must have, but I can''t find any clear direction in which to go. The dedicated host I am using (Hetzner) gives me a 5TB monthly bandwidth quota which needs to be shared

bridge + SR-IOV guests with KVM
Hi, I managed to get SR-IOV with an Intel I350 NIC to work. For this I followed the documentation on this page: https://wiki.libvirt.org/page/Networking#Assignment_from_a_pool_of_SRIOV_VFs_in_a_libvirt_.3Cnetwork.3E_definition But as I have more VMs then VF on the NIC I also have a bridge wich serves the other guests. As I run Debian Buster as host I followed the documentation here:

Getting CPU and memory usage statistics for the host
Hi, I have noticed that virt-manager has the ability to show me the current cpu- and memory-usage of both the host and running guest machines. How does it do that? I could make good use of that information myself in the client applications I'm writing, however, from what I can see on http://libvirt.org/html/libvirt-libvirt.html, I have no idea how to go about getting it from libvirt. How to configure MacVtap passthrough mode to SR-IOV VF?
Hi guys. These days I'm doing research on SR-IOV & Live migration. As we all know there is big problem that SR-IOV & Live migration can not exist at the same time. I heard that KVM + SRIOV + MacVtap can solve this problem. So I want to try. My environment: Host: Dell R610, OS: RHEL 6.4 ( kernel 2.6.32) NIC: intel 82599

Mellanox SR-IOV IB PCI passthrough in Xen - MSI-X pciback issue
Greetings Xen user community, I am interested in using Mellanox ConnectX cards with SR-IOV capabilities to passthrough pci-e Virtual Functions (VFs) to Xen guests. The hope is to allow for the use of InfiniBand directly within virtual machines and thereby enable a plethora of high performance computing applications that already leverage InfiniBand interconnects. However, I have run into some

Want to log all ISP traffic to ULOG
I want to use fprobe-ulog (http://fprobe.sourceforge.net/) to generate NetFlow information about traffic going through my router. Error message doesn't make sense
Hi everyone, I incidentally configured two IDE controller for my machine-1.2 VM(it might be virsh attach-disk to blame), and I got the error message "Only a single IDE controller is unsupported...". I can't understand this error message, I think it means I HAVE to configure two or more IDE controllers until I looked it up in the source. At libvirt-1.2.22/src/qemu/qemu_command.c:
