Working example of logical storage pool and volume creation?
Hi all,
Does anyone have a working example of creation of a logical storage pool
and volume?
I'm hitting a wall getting logical volumes to work on RHEL 6 beta.
There's a single drive I'm trying to setup (sdc) as a libvirt managed
logical storage pool, but all volume creation on it fails.
Here's what I'm finding so far:
Prior to any storage pool work, only the host

I saw this last week while I was at KVM Forum, but just haven't had the
time until now to start thinking about this stuff again ... as you point
out with your questions and replies - NPIV/vHBA is tricky and
complicated... I always have try to "clear the decks" of anything else

Hi, John, and thank you!
This was a very thorough and welcome response, I was wondering where all the storage guys were...
I will get back to you with more details later, specifically about multipath, since this needs to be investigated thoroughly.
I have, with trial and error method, during the elapsed time, been able to attach the NPIV pool LUN to a virtio-scsi controller, and it seems it

LVM Thin Volumes & Storage Pools
Hi,
Is it possible to create a storage pool based on an LVM thin pool? I
read a recent bugzilla but the problem there was that the storage-pool
became unusable AFTER creating a thinpool which is a different case.
Thanks,
Jorge

The error pasted by Cole in the bug should be the real reason, which is
overridden by the later pool stopping.
And we have the bug to support the thin pool, sorry you won't be able
to use it until

Could you share the bug number so I can follow it?

Re: How to fix an incorrect storage pool?
It says that Logical volume centos_hyv2/swap in use. Maybe centos_hyv2/swap is mounted. So I think you should umount or
swapoff centos_hyv2/swap first, make sure it is not used by other process. Then try pool-destroy.

How to fix an incorrect storage pool?
I've created my storage pool incorrectly. I'm using LVM and I have a volume
group called vms-lvm.
When I look at it in virt-manager I see that the volumes it contains are
home, root and swap, so when I created the storage group in virt-manager I
must have specified something incorrectly.
Unfortunately I can't find a way to correct this. If I try to destroy
(stop) the storage group I

Expanding an LVM Storage Pool
I looked around but could not find any info on how to expand a libvirt managed LVM storage pool. I do not see any virsh command to do it
but I was successful using the vgexpand command to add some more storage once I destroyed the pools and then restarted it.
I'd like to verify that this is the proper way to grow the storage in a libvirt LVM storage pool. And this brings up a second

Re: Passing multiple addresses with masks to nwfilter
Looking at
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/7/html/virtualization_deployment_and_administration_guide/sect-virtual_networking-applying_network_filtering#sect-Applying_network_filtering-Usage_of_variables_in_filters,
it sounds like the preferred approach is to use something like:

Mount options for fs type storage pools?
Hi all,
Presently writing up "Storage Pool" docs for the Fedora Virtualisation
Guide. (using both virsh and virt-manager)
Having trouble finding out how to specify mount options for fs type
storage pools.
For example:
# virsh pool-define-as guest_images_fs fs - - /dev/sdc1 - "/guest_images"
Pool guest_images_fs defined
# virsh pool-build guest_images_fs

move VM disk images between storage pools on the same host
I created a new LVM type storage pool on my server and would like to move my
VM disk volumes in a directory-based pool into this new pool. But I cannot
figure out how that is done. I find plenty of information on how to migrate
live VM images from one host to another, but not on how to just move one live
from one storage pool to another on the same host.
If it cannot be done live, how an I

Re: attaching storage pool error
Hi again!
Need to add here, since I been investigating a bit further, that it seems to be possible to add an NPIV vhba to the guest, using vdsm hooks. I've seen the reference to "host device assignments", which Dan pointed me too, but I didn't really understand the meaning of it at that moment.
It would be interesting to hear from someone that have been doing it, how it would
