Hot cloning & P2V
Hi all,
I guess my question is stupid and has been asked a thousand times but i was
wondering if it's possible to do the following things:
- Cloning of a running virtual machine (hot copy)
- Migrate a physical server to a virtual one.
I googled a bit and am not able to find the answers.
Thanks.
Regards,
Sam

NT4 migration errors
Hi
I've setup samba 3.0.14 with the latest idealx scripts on FC3.
Now I have a test lab to migrate from NT4 box which different than the
standalone PDC I have running.
Here's the order I used and my ldap and samba configs are clean
as far as I can tell since I do get a partial migration.
When using 'net rpc vampire -S nt4 -W DOMAIN' it populates the
groups from NT4 and shows the

libvirt-clone - Slow image cloning on a Server
Hello there,
I have libvirt/kvm installed on a HP DL380 server and it seems to be cloning a template image very slowly, in fact a 50GB image just doesn't gets stuck after 7%. Is there a reason why this might be happening? I've tried the same setup on a desktop and never had this issue. The command and setup is listed below:
virt-clone -o template.img -n new-clone -f .../new-clone.img

hot spare not so hot ??
I have configured a test system with a mirrored rpool and one hot spare. I
powered the systems off, pulled one of the disks from rpool to simulate a
hardware failure.
The hot spare is not activating automatically. Is there something more i
should have done to make this work ?

I can't virt-clone into an existing LVM now (ERROR: clone onto existing storage volume is not supported:) - i could in previous lbvirt versions? (deployment scripts no longer work...)
Hi
To deploy KVM vms I use a KVM template + script - which is cloned, then
cloned again and resized - using virt-resize.

Cloning a one-many association
Hi, I want to make a copy of an object with its associations, and I am
looking for an elegant solution. This is what I intuitively think should
work, but it doesn''t:
order2 = order1.clone
order1.line_items.each do |o|
order2.line_items.build(o)
end
This doesn''t work because a model class does not stringify its keys ...
so I can''t pass an object into a method that

Semi-automated cloning using powershell scripts
Just in case anybody else ever needs these, here are my semi-automated
powershell cloning scripts for Windows domain clients for Samba domain
servers.
ftp://saf.bio.caltech.edu/pub/software/windows/Cloning.zip
They are not very polished, but do what I need, and could serve as a
starting point for other sites. These have been tested only on XP SP3.
These scripts do not use sysprep, so the

XCP - Cloning VM from Xen
Simon,
To add on to this question:
Is it possible to run a VM (RHEL 5.2) which I had created on XCP 0.5 on XCP
1.0 whenever it is released?

Prateek

Cloning Centos server with RSync - what to exclude?
Hi all,
I have a few CentOS servers that I want to mirror live, to be standby
spares. The "spare" machines could be either a different machine (with
a different motherboard), or a VM in Vmware server.
I've used rsync in the past, which works well for doing it while the
machine is live. However, I want the destination to be running
different hardware, and have a different IP

Cloning a ZFS compact flash card
I need some help please.
I am currently using a compact flash as the boot drive (ZFS) on a thumper.
I want to create a clone of it to a file and restore it to a new CF card on another thumper. Unfortunately, an exact make, model and size of the CF has a few less cylinders so a straight dd of the slice2 does not work. Now I have to navigate the intricacies of the trying to clone rpool etc, which

[XCP/Kronos/XenSource] Fast cloning with copy-on-write
I''ve just been playing with XenSource and Kronos packages, but the fast
cloning ability from XenServer doesn''t appear to be available. Where does
this come from exactly, is it something built into Xen or is there a
component of XenServer that''s needed to handle it?
I was hoping to use Xen on Debian with my web app controlling it using
either XAPI or Libvirt, but I

Deep cloning an ActiveRecord

duplication of has_many relationships.
I''ve seen a few plugins but it seems unclear if they will work on
Rails3. So I was wondering if anyone has a good suggestion for a
plugin they are currently using to do this?
Basically I''m doing this because I have an object that I want to allow

Best Practices for Cloning A Module
Hello,
I wrote a compiler and would like to compile a program and clone a module
to run programs in parallel from different threads.
I'm able to clone a module easily to achieve this, but I would like to know
if there is an efficient way to do it since each thread needs just a
separate program data, but can share the same code. Shared code can save a
lot of runtime memory.
Could you please
